  • eBay: WTHYOU 8" HD Head Unit for Prado 120 Series?

Sorry guys. Does anyone know if there are differences between oz and OS prado models. I have an 07 vx and have found this GPS head unit. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-8-TOY...-/251038792301
But have no idea if it would actually fit. Anyone reckon if this would??

    Thanks for the help

    Dave

      Dave,
I would be more worried about whether it is entirely compatible with your vehicle. I havent the knowledge personally to advise you, but have been thinking along these lines myself, but have been over cautious. I am told that good quality unit through somewhere like Tonkins will set you back $1500 ish, but with that you get a guarantee that it all works AND a warranty.
I would be very interested in the results of your installation if you choose to go ahead with that as I have exactly the same vehicle as you and want to upgrade the existing unit.
      Cheers

I can't see why it wouldnt be fine. Theres heaps of those type of units out there for around that price. I bought one from Dig Options but you do certainly get what you pay for. Mine took forever to start up, and after 12 months(out of warranty) the screen went out of calibration and apparently needs replacing. And the gps stopped working. Only good thing about it now is the reversing camera. My advice is to spend the extra on a known brand.

I thought the Prado took the 7" unit not 8 ?? Or at least for the 120 that is. My Chinese unit came with the wiring harness to suite, but it came through a Melbourne distributor though.

            That seller (MWMRECH) is china/australia.

I purchased mine from them but it came from australia, postage times would be the only difference.

I had a few after sales questions as i was a noob and missed hooking up a reverse wire up front, they were extreamly helpful & responded fast to the emails i sent, They also sold me another camera for $15 delivered for back of caravan. You cant ask for more than that really.

I got the 602C unit as recommended by 'playdoh'. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/W602C-TOY...9&cmd=ViewItem

If your patient they will run one every so often at auction that ends after 11pm or later, best as most ppl are in bed i got mine for $240 delivered that way, including reverse cam you beat that for price.

Personally i would rather roll the dice on these than a + $1000 unit. i have seen quality units fail just like everything else.

GPS can be updated easily through research of other forums and also there is some cool car skins mods etc. http://www.igo8mods.com/dimka_download.htm
BT is clear and easy UI and mic actually works and ppl can hear you
REV CAM is very clear with nightvision - http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...eception/page2

            good luck with it

G’Day Everyone, after much reading on this site, I jumped out & bought one of these http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/251044730...84.m1439.l2649
It arrived today & plan to fit it over the weekend, my question is, Can anyone who has fitted one to their 120 give me a few tips or photos so I don’t have strip too much out of the dash to fit this unit, any hints would be hugely appreciated
Also how are they working, happy enough?
The suppler were really good to deal with on EBay & answered a few questions I asked in regard to camera wire length & mapping

Glad you saved your dollars i am extremely happy with my 602c so far.

check this link out for removing head unit http://www.hgfs.net/4x4mods/0710head...10headunit.htm

the reverse sensor wire on back of unit needs to be run to the reverse light wiring on your prado for it to enable headunit to go to reverse mode when u chuck in reverse, grab a test light and you will find the wiring you need in left hand side kick panel. cant remember what colour the wire was but can have a look if need be. I got lucky on the 3rd wire i tested i found it

reverse cam wiring is easy as and takes 5 mins wiring down passenger side, trim just clips off. i wired my cam to the reverse light wiring at rear so camera would only be on when in reverse.

PM me if you want details for GPS latest map updates and other goodies

                good luck with it.

edit.... picture of left kick panel wiring and camera install,

sorry for crappy picture, location of reverse wire you need to tap into with green wire from back of head unit.

camera doesn't have to be screwed at all doing it this way, just unscrew 2 bolts under rear bumper so you can flex bumper out to put cam in. does sit a little higher with guides on the screen but is perfect spot for reversing back onto my van. extra video plug in pict is for caravan reverse camera which i run through the AUX on unit which i can have running while im driving.

Another option for you, I went for one of these combos (below link), it's in the mail so can't comment on more than the add at this time. A friend of mine recommended these guys based on his success and they are Aussie based as well.

I found this web site linked on this Forum somewhere, seems very useful for info on installation, yesterday I pre wired Prado 120 ready and waiting for the unit.

I too have been looking at this one. Will be interested to see what you think once you've got it all wired up.

                        G'day everyone
Fitted up this unit yesterday http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/251044730...84.m1439.l2649 all went well thanks to info gained from this site.
eBay seller was great to deal with, but unit could have come with better fitting instructions.
Took about 5 hours, but I'm fussy with soldering joints, using heat shrink and insulation. Reverse camera wiring the most time consuming.
System works well, no great considering price we paid for it.
Thanks to everyone who posted on this thread

                        See you out there.
