It depends on where you are mounting it, I'm kinda out of spec on my Uniden 870 ( http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/UNIDEN-AT...-/400356565352 ) by mounting on bullbar. I can always switch down to my 3 db "shorty" that wouldn't be subject to the issue you experienced Smithy.

Getting a gme ae4018 with a stubby whip as well.
Am pretty interested in amts's knock-down awning bracket as well.

I have found over the years the only antenna that stands up to the rough stuff is the GME ae 4705, costly but good. I have never had a drama with them

Mounted the main unit on the spare braket up under the steering (under the dash).
Ran the extension to the mic out below the ash tray.


So now installed as neet as I will do (although there was some concern when I was caught attacking with the drill and large bit).

Was worried that it might be a bit quiet, mounted under the dash, but it is surprisingly loud.
I'm looking forward to getting a few reccie runs done, after I survive Sandy Cape.

Finally got the antenna installed on the rack. I was planning to mount it on the bracket that holds the awning, but the spring wouldn't fit, so instead of shifting the awning out I made up a bracket to go onto it.

I can just get the Prado into the garage with a stubbie whip on (plus the stubbie keeps me below 2.4m tall so can still get into most "height restricted" areas in Tassie).


The stubbie suits for around town and most situations, but I can swap whips to the 4018 when needed.

Not so much keeping it quiet, just assumed that NWOR would have got the word out more. I suppose most of those there were regulars, as most info came out via their website, facebook page or emails. If they do it again I'll put it up here. I reckon they will do it again - I know there was a bit of money spent and lotsa people looking to come back to get gear (and I spent too much)

Well it was agood thing youmwaited tomget the fridge since Helen wanted the big one. The one I sold was only like 37 litres so now you have plenty of roome to store the essentials.

Yes do keep us updated if there is another open day, good excuse to come for a drive.

Haha, if Casey hadn't taken it I would have still had use for it - Hels thinks the idea of a second (smaller) one for day trips might be good as well.
