  • The Palmer's 120

Our 2008 GX D4D as we got her in June or July last year. Fitted with option pack 2. The wife was adamant that she wanted a petrol, but after test driving this one she just said we’re getting it.

It came with Cooper AT3’s fitted (Grandtrek still on spare), reversing camera, towbar, wiring for driving lights & dual battery fittings (no battery or lights) plus that front bar thing (which I quickly made clear that I wanted to get rid of).

Took it for some plays in Tassie’s Central Highlands and the snow

before tackling some of the easier tracks in the Off Road Tasmania Guide book (this just about lives in the Prado now - except when I want to do some planning for different tracks to try).

This was when my wife decided we needed to do a little bit of work to it so she would feel more comfortable.

Ordered the ARB deluxe bar from North West Off Road and while I was there I decided to get a price on OME suspension and a snorkel. Told the wife the prices and she said to just get the lot fitted, but not to bother thinking of getting anything else for a LONG time.

The weekend before the bar was to be fitted, the “pool fence” thing up front snapped a post, as we were just heading off for a long drive, and was hanging by one support. Thank goodness my daughter had forgotten something and we had turned around. At least I could rip it off before we hit the road again.

That nudge bar looks like it came off some other vehicle, it didn't match up at all. The ARB bar looks much better!

Hated that nudge bar from the get go, all I could imagine it doing was bending back and doing more damage than if it wasn't there.

Also installed a battery to the dual battery system plus a pair of IPF driving lights. Unfortunately the battery tray that was originally fitted was poorly done (so it broke loose). A new Piranha tray was ordered and I fitted it this weekend (plus repairing and re-fitting a bent support for the side step).

              Rack

My wife picked-up the battery tray when she was in getting an ARB roof basket fitted (with an awning to come) as she wanted both of these things, and I wasn’t arguing.

Was quite happy - especially as I got a swag for $15 as well. Swag is a little rough, but it'll do me to see if I'll actually use one or not.

At first glance i thought that the thumbnail picture was of a porta potti,, Got me interested when you stated that it "Works a treat on Cool"

Would these do for most of my UHF needs, or would an in-car mounted one be a better idea?

Also have a pair of these for the kids - for around camp.

Its always handy to have a couple of handhelds on board (as long as they're charged up). Great for a second person guiding you down a track or when reversing etc... Yes the in-car mounted radios are desirable as they are typically more powerful (longer range), don't require charging and never get misplaced...

Had a feeling that power (and thus range) might be a bit limmitted with the handhelds, but the price was pretty good ie: an almost perminant loan
