Have now got my Kakadu setup with dual battery and I am considering a voltage boosting diode to up the charging rate. There seems to be 2 players in the market LeighW and ABD Sidewinder, which is the most useful and less of a liability for my vehicles. Do they both have fusing and can be re used if a short causes a failure or are they both throw away. Is there other alternatives?

I think Leigh is the one who invented these, all the others are just copies. Happy with my leighW booster.

Yup, I actually have one of each...
Bought LeighW's first and was faultless, but a mate asked me to get him one, got him one from Derek at Sidewinder, and he backed out.. So I gave it a test anyway, the ABR one needed to be trimmed down to fit the fuse socket on my '08 120 D4D, but both work as expected, boosting charge volts up to 14.4v if required..D4D Prado GXL - 2014. 2" OME lift, ARB Deluxe Winch bar, ARB under body protection plates, ARB EZ Deflator, Weaco fridge, Matsen fridge on slide, BFG A/T's, ARB CKMA12 compressor, Oztrail side awning with LED lights PLUS canvas extension, Lightforce XGT's.. Im fairly certain none of them are fused, they just rely on blowing the diode if there is a short(thus throw away).... not the best circuit protection from my point of view. There are plenty of threads on the use of diodes vs nothing vs dc to dc chargers so have a read around.
Personally, since I have an AGM Optima blue top battery I use a matson dc to dc charger. Only early days yet but am happy with it so far.

Not sure that's right.... I've got one and I'm fairly certain that there is a Fuse element and Diode in series......

I have no doubt these work. I have been considering it for a while.
I mentioned it to a friend who is a electrical engineer or similar.
He was quick to say that it's not good for the alternator.
I don't understand it, but basically my understanding is, well it's kind of like a chip for your engine, yep 15k, 60k, 200k, who knows how long it will go with no problems, but it does put additional loads.....
Also I did blow the fuse in a water crossing. I'd want to be sure it will do what it was designed to do and pop fast.
