  • Hi all
I noticed many people talking about droop of the front of min of 60mm. What about droop in the rear. Is there a recommended min. I have used Dobinson 327 in the rear with Bilstein 80 series shocks, the car sit say approx 755mm and droop is only approx 800mm so less than 2" of down travel. I have about 90mm down travel at the front so pretty happy with that.

        • Just be careful wither OME rear coils, ARB almost always overspec the rear coils. They most often recommend the 200kg coils which w hen unalienable offer a very firm ride and about 80mm of lift. Even if you request the lighter coils they will most often talk you into the heavier ones. They are OK when loaded up, or if you intend on driving around permanently with draws and fridges etc.

I've just got the OME in mine and they didn't recommend the heavy springs for what I have, even though I tow a camper. I have a bull bar, dual battery and no winch.

            Front Springs - 2885
            Front Strut - 90010
            Rear Springs - 2889 (med)
            Rear Shock - 60080

            Before
            FL - 740
            FR - 750
            RL - 800
            RR - 790

            Nearly empty fuel tank

            After
            FL - 780
            FR - 795
            RL - 845
            RR - 840

            2/3 of a tank.

            • Hi maxjj: I have 2014 150 GXL with factory suspension I've added ARB winch bar and warn TABOR 10k winch with Dual Batteries. At first it dropped 7 mm but now after 6 months its now 38 mm.This is comparative to your data as a bench mark. We don't do a lot of off road so I'd imagine with more serious off road work it would be more. We are going to upgrade to Old Man Emu setup for the additions.

              • Hi All,
Just thinking of doing the same thing but instead of replacing the original shocks I will be using it and replace the spring only for 2 inch lift . I got ARB bullbar ,dual battery as well. My Prado is only 27,000kms old .
What are your thoughts on this set up.

                Thanks

I don't think the original shocks won't keep up with the stiffer spring me thinks.

I think your likely to have limited travel with a longer spring but a standard length strut, I would suspect you would have the shock topping out causing handling issues.

                    Cheers Andrew

                    • Well all we have done the upgrade and what a difference: I think it proves that the ARM have this by the short and curly with matching springs and shocks. They listened to what my needs were and fitted the right gear for the job. It could be said that the difference was inevitable and maybe other combinations would/could be better but I thin value for money it's spot on.

                            • Front is a bit high fp. Keep an eye on that. Hopefully it will settle but watch CV angles and look for leaks from CV boots.

Hmm, ok thanks for the advice. I will monitor the front. Right after installation yesterday I noticed some positive(?) camber on the front wheels (V-shape, tops leaning outwards). After some driving today it appears to have lessened somewhat. Was going for a wheel alignment but will now give it a week with the current settling going on.
