  • Hi Roo,

my 2006 Prado has the dreaded "injector death rattle" with only 53000klm. It started after i had it serviced at Toyota. Anyway I am looking at buying a set from Bailey Diesel Group and wanted your opinion on them, have you used them? In your opinion is this the way to go? Also should I be adding another fuel filter and if so what brand do you recommend? Do I change the injector pipes? Did you ever make an Installation guide up?
Sorry about all the questions, but value your input.

    Regards Fireblaize

Click on his name. In windows it pops up a menu and has send private messagecas option. In tapatalk select name and it brings up a page with his details. There is a little envelope symbol in top right select that and it brings up message window

                  • I am changing my injectors next weekend putting in BDG ones. Do I need a diagnostic scan tool to do them? Or can I just prime the system when I am finished and go from there.

You can just prime the system and start it up. Ideally you should enter the new compensation codes which would require you having something's talk to te ECU with, but no problem to drive it until you can get this done. I believe even if you don't put the new codes in the ECU will "learn" what it needs to do anyway.

                      Cheers Andrew

                      • Thanks AJ,
thats great, Toyota have quoted me $70 to put the new codes in, so I can take it to them. Reasonable price.

                        • So, I picked up the four injectors while in the USA this past month. Brought them back here to Prague, gave them to my mechanic who installed them yesterday.

$1150 for injectors, $325 for the installation (including some gaskets, oil change, and dropping the pan to see if the strainer was clogged). So US$1475 in all. We didn't replace the delivery tubes, but I'm pretty happy with the overall cost.

I had been under the impression that all injectors had been changed at 75,000km, but the mechanic informed me that only one of them had been changed (don't know why), and that the rest all had their original copper seals. So three of them had almost 200,000km on them, and fortunately there was no indication of leaking seals.

I'm going to be interested to see what sort of fuel consumption I get now; it had been doing about 11l/100km.

                          • its been a while since my last posting - but have been watching this and the "rattle thread" with interest

TNZ are now nearing run-out time with the Genuine Injector kits - and they aim to sell the rest of their current stock
( as they have now sorted most early D4-ds owners in NZ with these kits )

Pricing until current stock is sold out $1961 NZD plus $40 - $80 NZD intl courier ( $1789 AUD plus shipping )
( price varries depending on your shipping requirements - price is a 3-4 day delivery to your door)

Kits include 4x NEW #316 DLC injectors, 4 x new injector pipes , 5x leak off washers, injector seats and o'rings

I can add valve cover gaskets and 4x nozzle tube seals if you require for just $72 NZD

My 120 has just ticked over 45,00km since replacement - so as per schedule Ive done the seats etc ( no leakage evident upon dismantle )
I also replaced the OEM filter and the Racor R230S elements

                            Current stats on my injectors cold 0.33 , 0.16 , -0.33 , 0.66 hot 0.00, 0.16 , 0.16 -0.16 - so dam happy with that

I also spent the time to hook the intake manifold off and check how the Racor crank filteration system was actually working
Result - after 45k the manifold had the slightest film of dry carbon - a quick wipe out with a rag and back together she went -like new
I highly recommend one of these to all memebers - TDS industries in the USA is the place to buy these from

PM your VIN # and contact details - and I'll confirm kit part #'s from TNZ
Ill happily sort packaging and arranging drop off to courier

                            Rick

                            • I did a fair bit of research on replacement injectors and had the choice of buying new @ trade price from an Oz dealer, buying Baileys changeovers or buying new from Rick in NZ.

Baileys were tardy in responding and despite their excellent warranty and a good price I decided on new.

Rick's price for the injector kit was a few hundred dollars better than my Oz trade deal. The only nervousness I had was sending a couple of grand to a stranger's bank account - especially a Kiwi but inspired by the supportive posts on this forum I bit the bullet. I am very pleased to say that all went very well and Rick provided a reliable and very prompt service. The kit arrived in perfect condition as 2 packages.

                              Thanks and well done Rick

Mind you..... I haven't installed them yet so another post will follow.... eventually.
