Assuming you want to do this yourself? The FJ/Tarcoma kit from the states is the kit to get, but you will need to make up some brackets for the intercooler radiator and water pump. http://trdparts4u.toyotaofdallas.com...dproduct=-8176

I got the chiptorque xede processor as it was all done by Bullet Cars, but I have read very good reviews about the APR X-1 http://www.aprpower.com/ecu_drivers.html which you can program from your laptop. If I had the time I would have installed myself and used this chip

I'm on std tires 265/65/17 Bridgestone Duelers and I suspect the run was made in 3rd gear.

Having now driven the car for a few weeks (including one 3 hr trip out to Benalla and back), I am very happy with the extra torque and drive-ability. I bought an OBD WiFi plug thingo and it talks to an iPhone app giving me all sorts of handy info. Fuel economy on the longer run was the best I've ever seen on the Prado at 13.5 l/100km. City driving is still horrendous at 16+ l/100km but I'm learning to drive with the torque to keep the revs down. The juice flows when the blower whines !

The TRD superchargers are based on the Eaton design. The rear bearings are closed cage needle bearings which are lubed with a long life grease. The bearings are not sealed so gas injected before the blower may disolve the grease over time. Depending on if the intake section of the blower is cast on or bolted will determine how hard it is to replace the bearings. Some can be simply pressed out others need a grease nipple tapped into the cavity behind the bearing so a grease gun can be used to drive the bearing out. It's an expensive job if you have to pay someone as they'll have to fabricate a tool to drive the new bearing in to the correct depth unless they work on these blowers regularly and already have the tool.

Not sure if there's a bearing that is suitable for gas injection. It would be a mod worth doing if they're available to save taking the blower regularly later on.

              Who fitted

              G,day Fsteyn
Trying to organise a supercharger for an 04 Grande at the moment. I was wondering whether you fitted the charger yourself or did you have it done at a workshop and if so who, would you be able to recommend them. And in the case that you did fit it who tuned it and which ECU did you use. Did you order the Tacoma/FJ Cruiser kit, I imagine it will fit the 1-GRFE that is in the 04. Sorry for all the questions, but any information that you give me would be greatly appreciated. I have looked at Bullet etc but think i can save a heap by importing the unit myself. Thanks in advance

                Any follow up on this?

I'm very keen to hear the experiences of those that are running these units.

The TRD seems like the unit to have. It seems a snorkel can still be used, whereas other units use an open pod filter in the engine bay.

                Also reliability and servicing issues?

Fuel economy shouldn't be much worse than without the blower. Most setups have a vacuum actuated bypass valve. Boost only applies when you give it the boot. When cruising the blower should be off boost. If you're burning excessive fuel, check that there's unusual drag on the blower due to misalignment or bearing damage.

I had an Eaton M90 running at 8psi on a 1UZFE (4L v8 Soarer) and was getting 8km/L in town and 8.5 on the highway driving normal. If I gave it a but of stick I'd get just over 7km/L.

I've since upgraded to 98 octane fuel and did a retune which has netted another 9kw and 25nm over 91 octane which is handy. I also did a run on the lower octane switch to see the difference between 95 and 98
