I noticed yesterday that my airbags were deflating slowly o/night, so I popped under to spray some detergent on the airlines where I have removed them to install my Grande Airbag spacers recently, to hopefully find a leak. No apparent leaks but it must be coming from somwhere. I set the airbag setting to high to have a good look and whilst inspection the airbags I noticed that the drivers side airbag was on an unusual angle and have now found that the airbag mount has begun to collapse. Pics below show what I mean...

The next pics you can see the angle that the air bags currently sit at with the Prado sitting on flat ground with the Height setting on "High"

Firstly I need to track down where the leak is coming from (hopefully not the airbags themselves). I then need to correct the airbag mount and strengthen. If someone with a Grande could please take some pics of Good brackets and perhaps some measurements of how high the bracket should sit off the Diff, then I can push it back up to the appropriate level and then find someone in Brisbane who can strengthen it all up for me...
In the meantime, If anyone is considering working their Grande Suspension hard (like I have been recently), I recommend you look at strengthening up these mounts...

Craig. PM me & we can work out a get together & have a look at my std setup & you can take your own measurements, that way you will know they're what you want.
I'm not going anywhere much over the break.
          Cheers

Ouch x2. The airbag spacer needs some work.

Yes I think I'll remove the Spacers for a while until I strengthen the area up.

Hi guys, like I said on the other post, If you add a 50mm spacer you should space your bump stops out 50mm also.
You might get away with 20-30mm stop spacer, but why risk it?
Think it through...... It seems to be the vehicles with spacers fitted, punching though the mount as all the heavy load, when offroad articulation.
There is a reason why mr Toyota put the bump stops at the side of the diff at that height.

I could be wrong again, but I think it's well worth considering.

I fitted new bags and the spacers to Shan's grande Thursday, I like the design for bolt down etc, but it seemed a very high, I think a 25mm spacer is the go, and 2x bump stop extensions.
Shan was running standard bags with no spacer, no probs (other than leaking air bag.
You do need to secure the bag down!

I think the spacer needs to have an angle on one face. The airbag might be catching itself internally after full extension and then coming back down. I don't know this for sure.

The other thing is to make the base of the spacer larger so that it sits over the seat and bears weight on the axle, not the top of the seat.
Clackers suggested earlier that the spacer is not bolted to the seat but is still free to move but can still be restrained.

I don't think there is an issue with the bump stops but more with the weakness of the driver's side seat. Happy to be corrected though.

For reference, this is how the airbag sits without a spacer. Looking at the drivers side from front to rear:

Thanks Peter. Today I deflated the Airbags to straighten up the mount that had collapsed.

Happy with the result. I have cut out a cardboard template to use to make up a Gusset plate to strengthen up this section the same as what Bellyup has done (see post #14 in this thread). It was then on to find where the leak was and from giving the Airbag a couple of squeezes, it wasn't long before I found the source of the leak.

                          Bugger!
Considering trying that glue Rapidfix which has been talked about on the forum Here The website states not to use it where the material is required to flex, however the spilt is right on the edge and once the bag folds back over, it shouldnt need to flex at all. So I'll give it a crack, you never know. I will need to replace the bags at some stage, most likely with the extended airbagman product. But this may buy me some time... Now to go and price up replacement airbags. If anyone has a spare airbag laying around that they wish to offload, PM me...

Found the same tear at the same position on my driver's side airbag too. Checked the passenger's side and no tears but the rubber is cracking. Perhaps it's ageing? My Toyota dealer can do replacement airbags for about $350 a side.

Is that trade Andrew? I was just quoted $436 from Toyota with stock being Ex Japan. I have just bought some RapidFix to see if I can do a temp repair on it. Does anyone know how much pressure (psi) these airbags need to take?

That's my price inc GST. Trade should be slightly cheaper again.
