Expression Of Interest for a Prado Point Cape Trip

Ok its very early but time to put a mark in the calendar for 2014. Going to be a big trip year With the GTG on also.
Interested in the time of year people would like to go either June – July or Sept – Oct. I have been up there in September – October and loved it but was considering going earlier in the year .
This trip was already planned and would be great if we can get a group of Prado Pointers going .

Ok if School Holidays don't change between now and 2014 . VIC, NSW, Qld School term finishes on the 27 June
    SA,WA, ACT,4 July
    NT 20 June Tas ?

Now to do the trip and I did do it last time if you started from the Sat at the start of the school holidays and went to the Sun before school you could do the trip . But no travel time at all.
So to at least get the Vic, Nsw, Qld back to start of school term depending on where you live.

How about Be in Cairns Tues 24th june .Could get a bit of a group to travel up. Pick people up on the way .
Day off Wed 25thJune ( shopping, svc cars trailers .
Off to the tip Thur 26th june
That should put us back in cairns on the 10th-11thjuly.
if we spend all the time up in the cape .
Last time I was up there also done a reef tour out of Port Douglas and looking like doing that again.
I can put the whole trip together back to cairns or when people get to certain spots they could head back .

    From Cairns
Day 1: Cairns to Lions Den via coast Rd.

    Day 2:Lions Den Hotel
Spend the day exploring Cooktown, the history and museum.

Day 3:Lions Den via Battlecamp Rd to Archer River.
Leave Cooktown and head via the Battle Camp rd. Travel to Laura and head up the main rd to Musgrave.
Option. Some may wish to travel via Lakefield National Park and then join up at Musgrave.

Day 4: Archer River Roadhouse to Dulhunty River
We head along the Developement Rd to Bramwell Junction. Stop for fuel / lunch and then the adventure begins as we tackle the southern part of the OTL stopping at Dulhunty River.

    Day5: Dulhunty to Twin Falls.
Leave Dulhunty cross Bertie Creek and head towards Gunshot Creek. After the fun of conquering Gunshot we head towards Cockatoo Creek .

    Day 6: Twin Falls
This would have to be the best place at the Cape. There are a number of swimming areas which are croc free.

Day 7: Twin Falls to Nolans
We tackle the northern part of the OTL and camp at Nolans if there's room and watch people tackle the crossing swim relax or we can move up to the Jardine river and camp or head straight to Loyalty Beach

Day 8: Nolans,Jardine? River to Loyalty Beach Day 9-10-11-12: Enjoy the Cape. Have done the trip to Thurday island small tour fishing on the way over , lunch , Horn Island , and was worth it.
Plenty of time to enjoy what the Cape.

    Day 13-14-15-16
Options Stay another day at the Cape or explore Vrilya Point in the Gulf
We can do the Frenchman’s Track to Chili Beach , Captain Billy’s Landing .
Plan to do all the tele track again as well as Nolans depending on conditions.

More details if there are interested parties.

Of course, the usual trip disclaimer applies:
PLEASE READ THE DISCLAIMER BELOW; IF YOU CHOOSE NOT TO AGREE TO THE TERMS SET OUT THEREIN THEN PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND. THIS INCLUDES PRADOPOINT MEMBERS & THEIR FAMILIES & FRIENDS!

minimum vehicle requirements or recovery equipment?
Ok what should people have this might open a can of worms.
Winch! only put one on if you were going to put one on don't do it just for this trip. Will be enough people that have them.

Lockers! Only if you had planed to put lockers in. 150 Traction control works well

Suspension! It would help but you certainly could do it with standard suspension you may just scrap a little more.

Side steps! If your car isn't raised you may touch your side steps so be prepared for some bends maybe.

    Front rear Recovery Points.

Diff Breathers Water in the diffs no good.
    Transmission Breather.

Snorkel! Many cars go up there without but would be a better idea to have one. Have a good blind which i will be bringing again.

Tyres! Set of LT, don't have to be mud terrains .

    Your own recovery gear !

First aid kit , fire extinguisher,

Ive been wanting to head up to the Cape, so what better way to do it than with a group of PP friends!!

2014 also sounds good, give me time to get the car ready for the trip, and also a camper trailer!

Pencil me in at this stage.

    Cheers,

    Jeff

            Pencil me in.
Been talking about it for years and building this rig for it.
Have always thought of going from Brisbane to Cairns on The train http://www.queenslandrail.com.au/Rai...ngYourCar.aspx and then driving back from Cairns stoping at towns along the way.

Not sure I can make it yet due to work, but living here in Cairns I strongly recommend going to Laura via Maytown on the Old Coach Rd. The plans by council will probably have the coast road tarred by then and the Creb is a nice drive but merely a steep gravel track these days. The Lions Den is definately worth a visit though, so maybe on the way back or vice verse.

              Cheers,
              Dusty

P.S. Any Cairns specific questions just fire away, if I don't know someone I do will!

Would love to do the cape and agree, with a group of PPers would be the best way to do it. But, I'm thinking with a good 15 odd day cape trip, plus an easy 3 days each way from here to cairns, I'd be looking at least at 4 weeks of leave/travel. Mrs Iantz is a teacher, kids are at school etc etc...... looks like i'll have to leave this one til i'm a little older and have more time!

Sounds like blast of a trip though!
                      Diesel Prado with various things...

That sounds like a good idea, but reading the Train conditons the vehicle can be no higher than 2100mm. Might be a real issue if you have packed up the roofrack?

This trip sounds great, when do you think you will have a date set as I need to put holidays in a year in advance.

                            Thanks

There was talk at the 2012 GTG from a few of the qlders about doing the cape next year. If that's still on I'm interested.
                              Can't we just keep travelling?
