    Hi Sol,
Being an ex-Darwinite, I know how hard it still is to get stuff. I have the ZR shorty and have the added problem of 18in wheels. Some guys have put the 17" rims on (as per the SX) and in general run either Coopers or Mickey T's for tyres. I'm going with the new BF Goodrich TA KO's in 265/65/18LT (finally a good LT tyre for the 18" rims!) because I actually like the Toyota 18 rims. I have to wait until January for stock to arrive so gives me time to talk to the bank manager. :-)

I had the Toyota towbar fitted ($920 in Perth), have a Safari Snorkel, a 2m x 2.1m ARB awning fitted to Rhino aero roof racks and a 1210mm x 970mm Rhino Rack steel mesh basket . Will be getting the ARB deluxe bar and underbody protections, 2" lift with tough dog shocks/coils once the tyres arrive. I bought the Roadsafe recovery points from Perth 4 x 4 which actually have a 5000kg rating stamped on them. They'll get fitted with the bullbar and protection. You can find them on the web under http://www.roadsafe.com.au/tow-points.html. Outback Ideas also do Prado 150 recovery points. I use an Oricom handheld (2 radios) at the moment and it has been fine for the trips I've done with the 4wd club and going across the Nullabor.

I'm still deciding whether to remove the back seats as they spend most of the time up against the front seats. Drawers for the back were going to be available for the Shorty from Black Widow but they don't seem to have materialised. I believe Drifta will custom make whatever you would like (they do the pullout kitchens for 4wds too). The Optima batteries fit into the space in front of the air filter under the bonnet. There's not a lot of room in the back of the vehicle as it is without adding a battery into there.

Hope this helps Sol and welcome to the Shorty club!

    Cheers
    Fluffy
2009 Prado 150 ZR SWB, Silver Pearl, Snorkel, Tow Bar, 2" lift Tough Dog shocks and springs, BFG LT 265/65/18, ARB bullbar, GME TX3340 radio, ARB awning and mosquito tent. I have one life, why waste it wishing away when I can get out there and have fun!

Fluffy, I had BFG AT's in that size on my Kakadu and had to remove them. They are 26mm larger than the standard 18" tyres on the Kakadu (265/60/r18) and in Vic that's about 11mm too big (I don't have a lift). I now have Bridgestone D697LT 265/60/r18 instead which the dealer I bought my Kaka from paid for. Sol won't have this problem buying the SX with 17" rims so will have more choice in tyres.

I will say I think the Bridgestone's were a better off-road tyre based on the tread pattern and shoulder design but my Bridgestine's do ride a little less firmly and are a bit more bitumen friendly. I'm not sure how they will stand up to the test of time as they are made in Indonesia; the D694's I had on my 95 series were made in Japan.

I'm also looking at the Roadsafe recovery points but I'm not sure if they will fit my 150 as I have the TJM T13 bar. I think mine is actually the Outback version as it has the side wings on the underside of the bar, I can't work out how they would attach as I can't see the mounting bolt positions.

Welcome to the Prado club Sol!

Fluffy Thank you for the information. Do you have ant photos of your set up please? All though I know what I want to do. As I do not have the vehicle in front of me and will not see it for at least three months. I am struggling to work out how big things really are on the shorty. I have been in contact with Bassett another Shorty owner ( we should start a sub clan up for shorties?) and have asked him a few question and he has been great he also provided me with photos as well.
As for tyres I was looking at these last night and will most likely get BF Goodrich as I have used these in the past and found reliable.
As for the drawer system I was looking at off road systems. http://www.offroadsystems.com.au/ I like the look of their gear and ally does not rust that helps in the wet season in Darwin.
Your awning does it over hang the front and back of the roof? I was trying to work the roof length out the other night and couldn't.
I am planning on pulling the rear seats and leaving them in the shed. All subject to change. But I know I can reinstall them if needed.

          Cheers

Dueler120, After writing the prior posts I just found yours. Thank you for the welcome. GQ were a good beast. I have always loved the 70 series mid wheel base cruisers. They always seemed the right size for 4WDing. If Toyota released them again it would be a struggle not to buy one.

                SOL,
I've attached some pics for you.
The 2M x 2.1M hangs over just below the recommended max 700mm each side of the roof bars. The Toyota rails allows the bars to only be around 700 - 800mm apart. The photos probably don't really show it well but the back of the awning pretty much lines up with the side of the tail lights of the car and the front sits about 10cm inside the mirror. As you can see by the group photo it can cover enough to keep everyone out of the sun and happy on a hot day! The problems I've seen when people fit awnings that hang over a fair bit is when it's windy/high speed, the bolts can break out of the slide in part because of excess strain on the awning (think leverage vs weight from high school).

I'll post the pics of all the new stuff I'm getting on once it's done (should be mid-January at this point).

                Cheers
