  • Light Bars

    Hello All,

Has any one else made a roof bar to house a light bar. I knocked one up today as i cant justify the price from Toyotas for the 2 clip ons. I had it on the bull bar on my 100 series but now want it higher to get more light. If any one else has made one of these or has some better ideas please let me know. The second one will go at the back to be a holder for the shovel. Basic but effective.

It looks close but doesnt touch.

    Good job Cougz.
I like the low profile of your mounting set up.

Looks good Cougz. That fence is certainly lit up well! But from that pic there's appears to be a lot of dark area in front that misses out?

        Craig,

thats just the light bar on and no head lights. Once i get it mounted correctly ill find a dark seedy road and turn them all on with spotties as well. Mind you i put them on last night and they were yellow in comparrison, Time for a HID upgrade in those as well.

        Cheers on the feed back.

More to whats being happening today i made a second bar to put on the back that way i can put my shovel up there as well. In the close up you can see how i have fitted them but by the time you look i will have cut the tab off and then welded a plate on the end with a 10mm tounge instead it wont break or wear. This way i can aslo put a awning up there(HINT HINT GLENN).Once more is complete some more ill put a few more pics of it on.

??? Umm - just a bit close to the roof, perhaps ??? Can you raise them at all? Any rough roads will have the bar flexing into the paintwork!

Do you get much of a side spread I really would like to mount one in the bar to get the edges of the track right in front of the car?

My light bar doesn't really show up the edges of the road so I have left the spots to do that job. It just seems to help amplify the existing light and whitens things up amazingly... Wouldn't be without it now!

                        light bar

                        Hello again,

In between jobs i have almost finished this job off. I just need to run the wiring this week end and its complete it. I remade the ends to slot in better and even made it so they screw in to tighten up. Took some advice and bent the bar upwards a little to give some clearance. Decided i was going this far so i bought an awning to and made some brackets to mount that as well. Easy to remove if not required to.

I got on the old flea bay and gpt a set of HIDS for the XS900 IPF and expect them in a few days so when they are in and the light bar it wired up i will take a pic and see where there is any dark spots. I wish i wasnt so impatient i would have powder coated these but im like a kid in the candy shop and couldnt wait.

We are heading to Mannum up the river next week end camping so i will be able to try them out up there and get them set right on the dark back roads.

Looks good Coogz, im in the 'planning' stage of an identical galv bar to mount the maxtrax!

Im particularly interested in your method of mounting into the side rail channel section, can you describe or photo the mount for me as this is why I havent started fabricating yet!

I have made up some shovel holder brackets out of 50x50 and spent forever setting up the mounting brackets already!

If I see you on the road I may just have to flag you down for a snoop...
                          Thanks mate.

                            Gday Michael,

I had a 10mm plate welded into the tube so it slide into the side rails and held it there.

Iff you put this bar across the car it slots into the rails. Then the nut and bolt welded on there also slides in and when done up pulls it in wards to tighten it up.

Fairly simple but yet to be tested on rough roads. I think it will be good enough as its in there very tight.

Im in TTG area if ya want to call past any time. 0407700128.

Got a HID conversion today for the IPF. How easy were they to change. 15mins from go to woa. Only got the 6000k as they will be clear enough hopefully.

The light bar is a Great white brand. If you look them up they have also a huge 18LED spot lights that cost a few bucks but very very bright.

                            Cheers for the feed back.

Which brand IPF conversion did you get and do the ballasts go in the light itself, also how much?

See ya on the tracks, Richo.
