  • Rhino Pioneer Platform rack p/no 42103

Note that the usual part number for the 120/150 is the 42102. I have ordered the 42103 which is 1376mm wide.

    The 42102 is 1236mm wide

I've gone with the 42103 to get more width. It has an additional plank which would make it more useful for me. I currently run 3x 1375mm Aerobars with 2000x1100 old style Rhino platform and don't find the Aerobars too wide. So this new rack should be OK (well I hope so anyway).

The Pioneer platform rack has pre-drilled holes to suit the centre distance between the cross bars. Because the 42103 is not meant for the 120/150 Prado. I will have to drill my own holes, or at least utilise an existing hole for one cross bar and drill the remaining holes.

Anyway, hope this 'risk' will work out well. I've always been a big fan of the Pioneer platform rack so finally took the plunge after getting a great deal on it.

Photos to come when it arrives.

While waiting for it to arrive, I printed out the fitting instructions where at the back, there is a fitting chart. I cut out the graphic and overlayed the 42102 over the 42103. It looks like the front pair of holes are pretty close so I will only need to drill out 4 holes for the 2nd and 3rd pair of legs.

I opened the box last night and took a plank out for measurements. Will need to make up some AMTS parts for it Photos soon when I get time to assemble it.

I bought the flat pack version which I don't think is available in stores. I was assured that it is the retail version as I only know of one version and that is the rack partially assembled and all the end user needs to do is insert the 3 crossbars to match up with the mounting points.

I'm glad I got the long arm riveter as there are going to be quite a lot of riveting to do and they're 5mm rivets.

              interesting...

...as far as i was aware you couldn't buy it "flat packed" ... i don't think i'd even bother attacking it with a hand rivet gun at all... i used an air one... and i only had to do the 3 crossbars on mine ...but i'm lazy, and will do anything can to make a job easier

did you buy it from a retailer?

That's right, you can't buy it in a flat pack. Yes, it was a retailer in Sydney.

I'm nearly done fitting the rack. I just need to pull it down and rivet the 3 crossbars to the planks.
Below are some shots of the rack.

No I was at the wheel alignment place and had a bit of time to take photos. Wish it was though. Has a pit and hoist!

Hi Andrew, I should be getting one of these in the next week or so - did you use the front holes and drill out for the 2nd and 3rd row in the end?

Looking at the fitting instructions it looks like the 42103 F2 holes line up with the 42102 F1 holes like you said. Looks like the 42103 R2 holes almost line up with the 42102 R1 holes as well.
