  • SEQLD- Daytrip to ScenicRim 4WD park - 16th Sept 2012

There has been a lack of SEQ public PP trips of late so, this Sunday I am doing a day trip down to ScenicRim 4wd Park. Be great to meet some new faces. The park is about 1hour 45 minutes from Brisbane CBD and has a mix of all diferent types of tracks. http://www.scenicrimadventurepark.com.au/

    Date: Sunday 16th September.
    UHF: Channel 16
Time: Leave brisbane at 7ish. For arrival about 8.45-9am. I plan to stop at Beaudesert BP, if anyone wants to meet there before.
    Location: Scenic Rim Adventure Park
636 Tamrookum Creek Road, Innisplain QLD
Cost: The park charges $35 for the day to use their park. You have to pay cash on entry, no cards accepted
Weather: I spoke to them yesterday and they said it is very dry down there at the moment. If the weather changes we will re-assess.
    Google Maps: https://maps.google.com.au/maps?q=63...+4287&t=m&z=19
Details: The plan is to spend the morning exploring their tracks, then a nice relaxed lunch (BYO food, drink and specially water ). You can have a BBQ if you want as controlled camp fires are permitted. Then an afternoon back on the tracks. The tracks have everything from mild to extreme, so there is something for everybody there.
I imagine we would finish up around 4.30pm or so and be back in Brisbane around 6.00pm

Of course, the usual trip disclaimer applies:
PLEASE READ THE DISCLAIMER BELOW; IF YOU CHOOSE NOT TO AGREE TO THE TERMS SET OUT THEREIN THEN PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND. THIS INCLUDES PRADOPOINT MEMBERS & THEIR FAMILIES & FRIENDS!

Hey we ride most weekends at either Bunya or Gap Creek and you are more than welcome to tag along.
And yes I am taking the Prado for the weekend. I'm overlooking the Prado being taken to Moreton for a week without me

                            Trip Report
What a great day. The forecast was for a fine sunny day and it didn’t disappoint.
The drive down to scenic rim 4wd park takes close to 2 hours from Brisbane. For those that haven’t been there before, this is their new location. They have moved recently and the one in the “Dirty Weekends” book is their old park. Don’t go to that address. The current address is the one on their website. http://www.scenicrimadventurepark.com.au/

This park is new and they are still building the tracks and clearing our dear Prado pin striping friend “Mr Lantana…” But thankful that is mostly confined to the lower regions of the park. The vast majority on the new tracks have been cleared by a bulldozer but the leftovers were no match for Mr Machete…. Richo and Bear Grylls would have been proud of my roundhouse machete technique.

We rocked up and waited to see if any others would join but no one turned up so it was just us for the day flying the PradoPoint flag.. In speaking to the owners they normally like a couple of 4wds to go in the group on the harder trails but could tell we knew what we were doing and they saw we were decked out with all the right kit on the Prado, and we could always call them on UHF ( which they monitor) if need be, so said we should be fine. There were only 6 people in the entire park yesterday so we had it to ourselves. When you turn up you register at the office, write you rego on the chalk board so they know you are in the park in case of an emergency, and they give you a map. Now here is the kicker. As the tracks are new, none are signed and they gave us a photocopied track map. The tracks graded in colour, but the photo copy was in black and white The major roads are all fine but on the specific tracks the whole day it was lucky dip. You never knew what was laying around the corner in difficulty. We walked the ones that looked tricky and was a great way to constantly think about your lines instead of just blundering down a trail. Very refreshing. They are going to sign them soon though, as it’s on the things to do.

All ready to go. There are a half a dozen areas to camp. Amenities are basic but fine, with a couple of sets of toilets.

The track up to the park was very dry as can be seen below

Mr Lantana piles from the dozer ..

Some of the tracks start to close in, especially at the bottom of the park.

Having fun, good shot of AJ sliders, AMTS bash plates and Brains TG150. All were put to good use

Oh dear, scraping my rear end. Time to start looking for a rear bar….

Half way up the top of the ridge they are some great views of the surrounding area including Rathdowney etc.

Morning tea on top of the ridge. Some of the biggest bullants I have ever seen were trying to carry our food away.
