  • Plan B Recce (aka AJ-Gate)

The committee decided that should the weather gods play havoc with conditions we needed a plan B. To that end AJ, Mrs AJ, MLC and Mrs MLC decided to conduct the confidential mission to check out sights and opportunities in the Loxton / Berri / Barmera area.

The 1st started with a mission to a secret private location to which AJ had access before they invented 4wds. It is believed he took the family horse up there after fitting some oversized horse shoes. There was no doubt that he knew this place well, so well he referred to the local wildlife by name.

We drove around snaking through a myriad of hills, dips, angled turns and quickly began enjoying the natural layout of the 4wd challenges on offer, well for a short time anyway.

AJ decided to approach a simple wind swept drop-off. Rather unassuming but never-the-less requiring a degree of thought. It was at this point that reputations were destroyed, the mighty toppled and Mrs AJ, so relaxed in her role as backup driver held helpless as she was trapped by sand due to the "occurrence" that unfolded.

The story is well documented in the following footage, but BE WARNED, this is not for the believers that walk amongst us. Many have placed AJ on the highest pedestal so rightiously deserved through never getting stuck and conquering such challenges as Madigans, the Cape, Nolans and many others that only the bravest and most fearsome 4wders amongst dare say, let alone face head-on. This is definitely NOT FOR CHILDREN who will suffer many nightmares from the absolute devastation that the footage portrays. Those with pacemakers or suffers of Angina should also avoid these videos at all cost.

People, you have been warned and remember, it's ok to look away.

Ok, apologies to those viewers who found that stressful. The mission was not a total failure. In line with the rule that we don't leave anyone behind, those amongst us that were mobile swung into action, providing a quick and calculated response to ensure both AJ and Mrs AJ survived and turned what could have been a horrific situation into a productive achievement as seen later in this thread.

From here the day proceeded without incident through to its almost conclusion.

The last surprise was "The Hill" This particular hill while steep, still looks do-able. Closer inspection though shows it has two small factors making it almost impossible, almost!

The first is the EXTREMELY short run up, and the second is a lump right where you don't want it causing one to lose momentum (grip).

There were a few tries and AJ, one of only 4 persons to ever get up did it again for the second time! MLC, exercising restraint decided to just put his front wheels up but not over, after all, AJ was already a broken man with a ego still on the critical list .

The successful run can be seen in the GTG thread.

Day two saw a Recce to a well known secret location. For confidentiality reasons I will not post the following picture:

This mission promised as many challenges as we wanted to tackle. This secret location would take a few days to do in it's entirety!

The day progressed well until we came across two Nissans that had just passed one of the many mounds. As we found out, the daughter had hung her Nissan up on the mound and Dad had pulled her off. (hmm, sounds biologically wrong).

Anyway, I was leading and was relishing the opportunity to show up some lifted Nissans!

And thats when the mission turned into the battle at Loveday, I mean when the skirmsh at the secret location began.

I thought I had the best line for effect and assaulted the mound, only to beach out on top. IT LOOKD grim, although AJ's view was slightly different as he was secretly hoping for a one -all stuck result

      http://s1086.photobucket.com/albums/...t=M4H01680.mp4

As understand there is no fottage, but as AJ admits, my skills saw me reverse off, re-assault and scale the obstacle, much to the disgust of the Nissan drivers and AJ

Now it was AJ's turn. Naturally, with Nissan drivers present, he would scale this "Hamburger Hill" of 4wding!

Unfortunately, it was not to be and his already badly battered reputation was to take another viscious attack to a point too close to no return.....

Again, this is disturbing and viewer discretion is advised....

        http://s1086.photobucket.com/albums/...t=M4H01681.mp4

...and some borrowed footage from a previous occurrence

        http://s1086.photobucket.com/albums/...t=M4H01687.mp4

Thank God mlc was there to save them, it could have been so much worse if the Nissan recovered them.....

The day wrapped up after spending time on vaious other natural and man made tracks. The Recce was a success and our plan B confirmed.

Anyone wanting to send gifts for AJ can send them to me and I will ensure he gets them. If your a tight arse and just want to wish him well, do it on this post.

          mlc

PS Thank you Trish and AJ for your hospitality and 2 great days. It was a pleasure calling you friends, even if I am banned from doing that from this post on

Gee Rob, given your unbridled excitment at the weekends events; anyone would think that this is the first time we have been on the tracks together and I got stuck and you didn't!

Oh thats right, it is the first time that has happened

Correct AJ. I was more excited than a Bumble Bee caught in a jar, buzzing around hopelessly in circles!.

But lets all look at this from a glass half full approach:
              1. You were recovered by one of the best
              2. You got to learn from one of the best.
              3. and probably the only factually correct thing, we all had a great time.

mlc. (No Trish, Lea is not one of the best)

I take it the GoPro was a hit then MLC? I'll be viewing the videos when i get home as the internet is a little slow here at work!!! You'll have to give me a few lessons in the use of them so i can get mine up and running!!!!

No i haven't forgotten about the bits you requested either - just no chance yet... Something about there being a huricane that wiped most of the power out in New Orleans preventing the shops from selling stuff - of all the excuses...

Showing a nice amount of flex there Andrew - shame it hasn't helped though.

Are you still wearing the ear to ear grin Rob?

Matt- The GoPro is a hit, but really need te remote unit to make the most of it. GoPro are replacing mine under warrenty.

Trekky, what grin? Ok maybe there is a smallish grin, you know similar to the Chessier (sp) cat that knows Alice. The grin really is more from a great weekend. It was my first outing in a very long time.

Yeah the flex is good, need to work on momentum a bit now In the rough stuff my general MO is take everything as slow as possible, both incidents could have been avoided with a little more right foot, such is life.

On the positive side, We will be on the GTG in a couple of weeks, at which point MLC is bound to need recovering and things can return to their rightful place with all of us poking fun at Rob. In the meantime no doubt he will make the most of this breif window!

                        Cheers Andrew

I'm retiring with my reputation at an all time high. Lea will be driving from now on :P

In fact I would like to raise a small issue. Why has no-one nominated me for Australian of the year, or the Civilian Cross, or PradPoint member of the decade? I unselfishly confronted the most dangerous and risky situations, not once but twice to rescue AJ and Mrs AJ.

They were sooo grateful they offered me there genius son as a form of gratitude, one I rejected as the family unit is a most sacred thing. I simply cannot take any payment for doing what any super hero is expected to do.

Given I have now rescued an icon of pradoPoint twice, I doubt I am capable of getting stuck. There is little doubt that my reputation will soon exceed my self inflated ego and both will protect me from boggings, getting stuck, and general misfortune whilst driving.

mlc (recycler of mindless nonsense, dreamer extraordinaire)
