  • Reverse Camera Mod to see towbar

With the camper trailer about to arrive it was time to mod the camera to make hitching simple. The shroud around the camera blocks the lower 25% of the image. This meant the shroud was either getting modded or binned.

I had to slide the tow bar tongue out 100mm before it showed on the screen prior to the mod. You can just see it.

Rather than just remove the shroud I decided to take to it with the dremel. Surely there is a reason this shroud is there?? Anyhow, it now looks like this

What difference did that make? Well here's the image now with the tow bar tongue in it's home position.

    That should do it.

Now I need to make time to tidy the garage so we have room to fit the ct when it arrives , and maybe fit a larger screen/gps in the dash.

Interesting mod, the only way I could get to see the tow ball was to remove the 1/2 acre of spare wheel cover as that is what was covering the view.

Nice work! I presume you don't leave your spare wheel cover on though? Even with my spare wheel cover on, I don't think this mod would allow me to see my tow ball?

Yes just have to undo a couple of small screws and take it off.

Just had another look at mine as I was having difficulty understanding what you guys were on about. The shroud on mine is the opposite way around, that is, covering the top of the camera/lense housing. Mine is an August 1011 model so don't know if that makes any difference? Looks more like it is to stop any condensation or moisture dropping on the lense.
Originally I made a bracket to position the camera further out but it did not help, the easiest solution for me was to remove the spare wheel cover.

Yep spare wheel cover is shown on the screen in one of the pics..... hanging on the garage wall.

I figured the shroud may have slotted into the wheel cover somehow to stabilise it when it's on the car. Anyhow, modified it rather than have it get lost in the garage. Removing it is simpler and requires less tools if you want to go that way.
