  • Rainbow Beach

Just had a few days in the Rainbow Beach area to check out the camper trailer before heading to the GTG next month.

We went up via Cooloola Way and were surprised to find "Road Closed" signs at the northern end. Luckily we didn't see any at the southern end. We stayed at the Freshwater camp ground.

Love the campsite you picked Graham. I usually camp behind the dunes and think I must now try Freshwater camping. I presume that's where you setup?

No problem on the beach - nice hard sand.

The only problem was getting onto the beach at Freshwater. Got stuck behind a SWB Pajero that had bottomed out. When he was recovered and took off, we then couldn't start in the very soft sand. Luckily, the ranger was behind us and managed to get around us to try to tow us out. Took a bit of effort using the snatch strap and matrax but we eventually got to the beach. Had some trouble getting the maxtrax to catch - first time I had used them so probably just need more practice. When they did catch with the help of the tow, the car and trailer just drove out.

No problem getting off the beach at the Noosa end - no bogged cars in front of us and a good run up.

Freshwater camp ground is about 13km down a 4wd track which has a few soft sandy sections but we managed to get in there OK.

Saw quite a few campers behind the dunes on Teewah Beach which had some large caravans. Must have been fun trying to manouvre them in the soft sand through the dunes.

All good practice for the GTG in SA.

Yes Matt, it was Freshwater camp ground. It is a well laid out area and all the camp sites are well defined and separated.

Only problem was some lowlifes broke into the shower coin recepticles one night and stole the money. Even 13km down a rough 4wd track is not enough to get away from such people.

Unfortunately it is just too easy to get onto the beach at Cooloola. As a result, you get all types able to get there.

                    Hi A10,

I was up the beach the same weekend as you. We were camped down on the beach at camp Toyota. Not sure if you saw the Toyota Flag in your travels. Wish I'd known you were a fellow PradoPoint member. I saw your camp setup in freshwater looks like a great rig. It was great weather except for the wind. Hope you and the guys have a great time at the GTG.

Didn't see any Toyota flag but we didn't go south of Red Canyon until we left on the Wednesday.

Checked all the Prados I saw but the only sticker I saw was on one in Gympie.
