  • Toyota Insurance - thoughts please

We pick up our new Prado in a few days and I have been looking for insurance.
So far Youii has been the cheapest but we are not going to use them, RACV were the next best and we have been with them for the last 30 years and never had a problem.
We have claimed damages as well as a stolen car and also one that was written off and they have always been quick to pay and no problems.
But just yesterday our Toyata rep asked us if we wanted Toyota Insurance and from comparing the policies they seem to have a better product as well as being a bit cheaper.
Does anyone else have Toyota Insurance and have you been happy with it?
Have you made any claims - had any problems?
    All reviews greatly appreciated.

For My 5 cents worth, I have been with RACQ for about ten years and cannot fault them. When I lost my wehicle during the Brisbane floods they could not have handled it any better and I would recomend them to any one who asked...
2012 Prado Altitude TD4D... ARB Colour Coded front Bar, Warn XD-9 Winch, IPF XS900 Driving Lights, GME Tx3400 UHF radio, Recovery points, Wynumm Towbar, Redarc Dual Battery system....

We have both prado's on Toyota insurance, haven't had to claim anything yet (touch wood) so can't comment on anything else other than they were good value with what seems to be good cover.
Also full replacement of vehicle whilst under the warranty period 3years 100000klm.

I too was with the RAC for 10 years till I found out they were the most expensive company bar none they came in at a tad under a $1000 for the Prado where as apia was $620 am AAMI is $460 and all are exactly the same policy ( I scrutinized them all ) add to that the sale person really couldn't give a toss if I took it or not (Perth office) and not surprisingly left them it does pay to shop around but make sure the policy's up to scratch theres no point in a cheap quote if it's not worth the paper it's written on ,

We have a 2010 Prado GXL D-4-D auto and use ALLIANZ. They are the cheapest by a country mile FOR ME.... Each time the renewal comes around, i get online, get a new quote with them and it's always cheaper than the quote for renewal of the existing policy by around $100-150 (costs me between $450 - 500). They have the roadside assist now included within the comprehensive package which is exactly like RACQ have for their normal roadside assist.

As always, I use allianz because it's perfect for ME. Everyone may have stories of their own.

Had a 2006 GXL, liked it so much bought a 2008 GXL. Liked the 150 so I bought a black 2010 GXL. Liked them even more and bought 12/2012 GXL. Must like Prado

I would doubt that very much Davy, I can assure you that each policy differs, slightly or otherwise Its just not right that people assume all policies are the same.

Ive said it before - you get what you pay for and as we're on a Prado forum our members obviously appreciate quality - there are cheaper 4x4's out there and there are also cheaper Insurance products too..

People - keep doin your homework or have an insurance broker do it for you!

an example for you APIA trailer cover is $2k and AAMI is $750...

                Thanks for all your comments.
Decided to give the Toyota Insurance a go - There was only $15 difference between them and RACV. Youi was about $50 less but the Toyota policy was the most appealing. Cost from Toyota was $580 so happy with that.
My bank wanted to quote but were unable to find the Altitude on their list - saved me making a decision about another company.
                All help was much appreciated

We took out Toyota comprehensive insurance on a Kakadu this year. It was around $600. Three year new for old. Not bad. Don't expect their customer service to be as good as they are not set up like that. But at the end of the day the policy is good and three year new for old a bonus. Previously we used RACv and more recently Suncorp.

Well the insurance contracts states clearly what will and won't be done and it's very difficult for insurance companies to deviate from the contract with the informed so I don't think it would be a problem. When you think about it, the last thing TMC wants is for its insurance product to get a bad rep, there's too much potential money to be lost.

Be very careful of RACQ insurance my daughters car was stolen from outside my house recently.

I actually found the car and called the police, this was four weeks after it was stolen. They have finally agreed to pay out as the assessor wrote the car off due to engine damage.

This has taken 9 weeks to date and now they have told my daughter that as they were paying monthly for their insurance before RACQ would payout they had to pay the balance of 5 monthes to complete the full years insurance policy!

Beware their promises and tv ads are are all crap they do not care at all about their customers just how they can refuse their obligations! My advice don't touch them.

By the way I have been an RACQ member for 36 years and will now not be renewing my membership.

                            Richo,

When the Mrs had her accident about 2 years ago, I chose my repairer (very well known with all the Insurance assesors) and everything he replaced was authorised and work was done within 1 week of the the claim as soon as the parts were available. I never had a problem with RACQ.

With respect to the 5 months insurance, they should be able to use that on their new car! Run out the insurance and then change if needed.

Maybe move to a better location where they don't steal cars from in front of your house!

I think all insurance companies are the same, they will try and get out of paying whenever they can.
