Hey guys thought you might want to know you can now buy an Australian spec Conqueror Commander (with all the fruit) for $39,990 in Australia (Africampers sell it for $50k+ as far as I can tell). Apparently (and I've been speaking to the guys from Conqueror) the UEV-490 and Commander are very different so they will now be selling both side by side in Australia so the public can choose which suits them best - an offical release is coming out this month.

UEV-490 Extreme is $55k the UEV-490 Evolution is $71K and Commander will be $39k.

Apparently on current models everything from all wiring, canvas, puming, fitout, chassis and suspension configurations are different and are done in the Brisbane factory.

Also incase you don't know Conqueror Australia is owned by Conqueror South Africa and Africampers has never been an offical dealer for them. He is buying them at retail price in South Africa and bringing them into Australia - hense why the Commander will be 39K through Conqueror.

I looked at the 490 at the Melbourne 4wd show last weekend and I"m keen to see the Commanders to compare the two... I'll let you all know what I find out.

By the way I'm not affiliated with Conqueror but I was very close to buying a Commander through Africampers as I thought the 490 was a rip... now I'm waiting to see both before I make up my mind- looks like the price of Commanders just went down! yipee!!

    Cheers
    Andy.

Even cheaper if you can source them 2nd hand. I was going to buy a 18month old one, hardly used in perfect nick for 140,000 rand (16k AUD), but work got in the way. Bit of leg work involved but conqueror are selling them here for 70 odd k!!!

Few minor differences they do to them here, i think they fit electric brakes and webasto diesel hot water systems where the commander has Alko overrun brakes with gas hotwater.

I don't mind paying a bit extra for simplicity and them doing the legwork, but 30 grand worth? Cmon.

you will be surprised how much storage space is in the camprite, we had the same reservations when we were looking, we found that we were taking too much because we had the room. and when we sold it the amount of gear that came out of it was stunning.

but good luck with your conqueror

Looks good, I like how they are off the ground, and all the gear is closed in once packed away, no need for dust covers and tie down every morning.

I think I like them more than the Conquerors now. I think I'm leaving things a bit late on time now trying to have one sorted for late June.

I was reading the new Camprites have some like only 65kg ball weight which sounds pretty good as well.. No need for massive hard rear suspension to tow one...

Well I was running out of time and found a hard floor Camper in Darwin for a decent price and in good condition. It's suspension is not as 'extreme' as other new off-road campers on the market but ticked a lot of boxes for what I like in a camper so couldn't pass it up. Thinking of putting the Prado steel wheels on the camper for the trip match up tyre sizes and allow interchangeability.

Anyway couldn't think of a better test for the East and West Mac's, Kings Canyon, and Gregory National park in a few weeks than taking it home through part of Arnhem Land today..
