  • I have noticed in my 2005 GXL that has been getting harder to shift from D to 4th. Is this an early symptom of bad things to come?

To be safe I will try to get the shift kit from Andrew.

It sounds like it is on the verge of falling out.

Did the upgrade to AMTS thingo last night, actually seems a bit more firm, does it loosen up over time or is it actually supposed to be like this? there was a good amount of clean grease still in the track so I didnt change it, would that make much difference? It mainly feels a bit firm between D and 4

        cheers!

        • Yes, it is a bit firmer. Ensure that there is grease down the tube too.

Thanks amts, what do you mean by down the tube (wear the bullet is?), and what type of grease did you use?
            cheers

            • Yes, where the bullet is. I wiped some of the excess grease in the track with the base of the bullet, and then inserted it into the tube/collar.

              • What grease are people using when replacing the bullet, or just keeping the old grease that was there? The only grease I can find around home is boating grease
                Cheers, Damo

You could probably just use the existing grease left on the cover.

I'll be doing a "Customer Service Exercise" soon to address some feedback about the shifter being stiff after fitting the shift repair kit. I did some investigation and found that the last batch of pins had a slightly different profile. As more pins were made in the last batch than springs, I have changed the specs of the spring to reduce the effort when changing gears.

The new replacement spring will be posted out free of charge to those that have purchased the kit over the last year.

                  • Hi amts, found this tread after searching for this issue with the gear leaver. For a while now I suspected a issue and typically like most did nothing about it. Well I now have the floppy gear leaver issue, so suspect that the pin has fallen out (I have not yet taken it apart).

Are these repair kits still available?

                    Thanks, Tony

                        • Just a quick update to say thanks to AMTS for the super fast service (parts arrived in a week all the way to the UK), fitted the spring and pin today and all working ok again.

                          • I've recently purchased the repair kit from Andrew and here is what I have to say:

Service was great, delivery was prompt, installation instructions were flawless and end result is a feather like shift.

                            Thanks for the innovation.
