The reason why this is becoming a common problem on the automatic 120 Prados is because the track that the pin follows becomes worn. This results in the short bullet/pin slowly coming out of the collar that it sits in. Given the right conditions, the pin will simply fall out and the gear selector becomes floppy. However, in a handful of cases, the selector becomes really stiff and if forced, may break the collar. If this break has gone too far, you will need a new shifter assembly.
There are 2nd hand shift assemblies available from wreckers but the design fault with having a short bullet/pin and unknown amount of wear in the track will mean that the problem will occur again.
Although this is a repair kit, it is best that this mod is done as a preventative measure before the plastic collar is broken in the shift selector should the selector become stiff. In the majority of cases, the selector just becomes floppy.
