  • SE QLD- Ormeau July 2012

As the Wallers Road trip was cancelled a few of us met up for a run up Ormeau on Sunday. With all the recent rain, it was always going to be a little wet there. but as it has a lot of rocks, it drys out fast.
Michael, Richo, Craig, Stewy, Fabs , Wayne and a few others turned up for the early morning run. There was a nice mix of 4wd's, including 150's, 120's, Stewys very capable new FJ (love that colour!), A Crusier with tractor claw tyres and a well set up jeep wrangler.
As I was down the back I dont have many photos, but others took lots that can be posted up.
Please take off the number plates where possible.

There was a most enjoyable rocky hillclimb near the end as well. When Richo held up the broken snatch strap near the top of the hill, some had second thoughts! Alas none of the 150s took up that challenge and only the crusier, 120 and the wrangler made it to the top.

Another great day in the Ormeau hills. I was riding shotgun on the day in a work mates very capable JK Wrangler at was tail end charlie for the day. Here's my contribution to the report with a few pics...

      Gumboot get'n Dirty!

Wayne following suit in his Jeep Wrangler

Around the half way mark of the track there is a small ramp over which is known for reshaping side steps followed by a steepish descent. Richo was trip leader and with his new TJM side steps/sliders and with the new found clearance, cleared the obstacle

      Contd....

All 10 cars got over this ramp over with only 1 Prado struggling as it was without a lift, however even with a 2 inch lift and /70 profile tyres, the side steps meet the dirt...

Like Richo and of course the Landcruiser with the big tyres, Stewy's nice new FJ and the Wrangler cleared the ramp over with ease...

          Followed by the steepish descent.

          Stewy enjoying his new ride....

On the way out is a little gully that is fun to negotiate. Stewy's turn.

            And Gumboot too...

After this it was a short drive to exit out and air up. With the drone of half a dozen compressors echoing through the bush, we all a bit of a chat and headed off home. Thanks guys another great outing with the Pradopoint SE QLD Crew!

For those that have done the Ormeau track, if you have issue 183 of 4WD Action, on page 130 there is a story on a Shitsubishi Challenger where the Pics have been done at Ormeau. In particular Tripod Gully...

See if you can pick it.

                        Craig,

I'm only referring to the comments posted in the for sale thread on the TG150! Just seeing who'd bite, my money was on Richo or Hutch but alas it was you.

Nothing like last minute decisions!. Just had a cancellation. So since I didnt get a drive last week I'm gonna take the wife and kids up to Ormeau for a drive and a picnic at the park afterwards. Wife has'nt been up there before and when I mentioned that the track may be shutdown in the not-to-distant future, she wants a look.

I'll be airing down at the Vennor Rd entrance around 11:15 - 11:30ish so if anyone can get there in time, I'll be on CH16 of my little handheld UHF cause my GME aerial is broke.

Well I got my fix today! A nice trip up to Ormeau with the Wife and kids. Lots of screams and laughter as we negotiated some of the rutted descents. The Rocky hill climb from the Vennor Rd entrance has had a going over by a bulldozer. The large loose rocks have been somewhat compacted by the Dozers tracks which was a shame as it's not as challenging as it was last week. They have been doing a lot of track repair work creating run off areas for when the rains return. Still a nice drive regardless (until it gets gated off if the bloke talking to Richo is right )
