If NSW have in fact finally adopted VSB14 it would be a big improvement on the previous VSI9 regulation.

I just skimmed through a few of the new 4WD regs in VSB14 and as well as being allowed 50mm increase in diameter, you may also increase track by 50mm. It looks like a 50mm suspension increase still remains the limit without certification and up to 150mm with certification."Sure it’s quiet, for a diesel, but that’s like being well-behaved… for a murderer."- Jeremy Clarkson

Refer to: http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registrati...ccs/index.html
NSW still requires compliance with ADR's, Schedule 2 of regulation.
But the important benefit for Prado owners is: If your vehicle complies with either VSB 6 or VSB 14 you can be confident that your vehicle complies with applicable vehicle standards, pending certification.
Vehicle can be raised a combined total of 50 mm (refer clause 4.11, VSB14, NCOP11 Section LS Tyres, Rims, Suspension and Steering):
Raising the height of the vehicle may be performed without certification providing the overall increase in vehicle height is not more than 50mm. This may be achieved as a single modification such as the installation of a 50mm lift kit, or by a combination of smaller lifts as
described below:
the fitting of body blocks or lift kits (50mm maximum if no other modifications resulting in a change of vehicle height are performed);
suspension modification, (50mm maximum if no other modifications resulting in a change of vehicle height are performed);
changes to tyre size (maximum change in tyre size diameter of 50mm); or
a combination of the above that results in a change of vehicle height not exceeding
50mm

Then any increase in tyre size from oem to a 50mm lifted vehicle is not strictly legal?Cheers Jim.

I am about to bite the bullet on a new set of tyres for a 150 GXL and need to find out if the engineering thing is required.
I just sent an email to an engineer regarding 265/70/17's. His reply was basically "since the vehicle is fitted with ESP then no modifications can be made, not even changing to same size yet different pattern tyres as that *may* affect the ESP", sounds a lot like VSB14, which AFAIK was not even approved in NSW, yet...
So what's the go, does anyone know for sure what we can modify or is this still all guess work?Last edited by rwo; 15-12-2012, 03:04 PM.

AFAIK, current NSW legislation has not adopted VSB14 and the limitations for tyres in NSW are in VSI09. There is no mention of VSC, ABS or TC in VSI09 and therefore 15mm over the largest placarded tyre diameter applies regardless of electronic aids with NO CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:
http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registrati...vsi09_rev4.pdf
To fit tyres larger than a 15mm diameter increase requires certification. If an engineer will not certify that which requires no certification, then he is completely useless.Last edited by Peterpilot; 14-12-2012, 07:21 PM."Sure it’s quiet, for a diesel, but that’s like being well-behaved… for a murderer."- Jeremy Clarkson

My 150 is engineered with a nominal 50mm lift and 265/70/17's. The engineer had no issues with either and even complimented how well it handled.
I think the engineer who replied to your email just didn’t want your business, plenty more engineers that will happily certify it for you.Dave - 2010 Silver GXL Prado 150 TD Manual.

rwo,
Hope this helps.
