EGR blanking plate to block off or restrict?

    E.g a member has had one fitted with an 8mm hole 12 months ago and now its around 10mm or greater due to wear?

    I am in NO way saying that this mod doesn't work / is crap / not worth it etc.
    IMHO every vehicle should be blanked off from factory as part of delivery! (the VW "scandal" will now probably cause australia to start emission testing instead of just accepting the sticker / paperwork) Anyway, while these plates are cheap as chips insurance for the engine... should I be considering replacing one of these every X years due to particulate eroding this tiny hole?
    I'd hate for these to wear unevenly or worse develop a fracture and start sending pieces towards the turbo.

    Has anyone pulled one back out and seen if there restrictor plate has cracked / drilled hole become enlarged?

    I remove & clean, customer buys & slips plate in if they choose, they just like doing it themselves for some reason
    Yes fit & forget. No wear. I have seen many removed.
    This is a one off job that's works.

    • Hey everyone, just to recap have we heard anymore about a relay setup to keep the egr shut so a complete blank plate can be used

        You can buy a manual mapper from ozbush.
        It stops the mil cased by full blank, we think.

        Or just stick with the egr flow reduction mod 7mm plate, we know it works very well, IMO it's your best balance.

        • yeh it certainly does that valve is defiantly clean. Thanks for the quick response. Just bought a 2009 GX with 115,000 on the clock so might be needing a good clean and a plate put in.

            • lol Yeh had a 2001 GXL 90 series back in 2004 so found this forum eventually got Tboned so bought a pov pack 2005 100 series, had that for a year then got a 2010 gxl prado brand new had that for 3 years sold it then got an 1995 gxl TD 80 series, xr6 sedan pulled out in front wrote my car off and now im back.

                • ############# Hey mate not wanting to side track this thread but just chasing your recommendation as you've seen a lot as far as catch cans go. I've had a provent 200 before but I'am lacking space as previous owner spent mega on dual batt and it sits beside air cleaner so was maybe looking into a provent 100?? Thoughts.

                    • 1GD 2.8L Blanking plate

                      I installed a blanking plate on a 1GD 2.8L yesterday. The plate is much bigger. It had a 7mm hole it in and so far no codes or faults.

                      Very easy to install. Took about 5 mins.

                      1GD plate with 7mm hole next to a 1KD plate. EGR pipes are bigger on the 1GD.


                      Installed on the Driver side near the firewall. You can just see the tab sticking out. Pretty stealthy.

                        Did you make this plate up yourself? I haven't been able to find anything available for this motor yet. Any info would be great.

                        Any other feedback on effectiveness or feel any difference in the 1GD engine with the blank?

                        • We fitted this to mine (well the wifes) on the short drive home from Tin's it did feel a bit more responsive down low in revs but haven't had a proper test or highway drive. Boost has not changed nor any temps.
                          Arb colour code deluxe bar, safari snorkel, lightforce venom HID's, GME uhf remote face, redarc tow pro, redarc bcdc 1240, pioneer platform, 40" curved light bar, dual battery, 3" SS exhaust, EGR mod, trans cooler upgrade, provent catch can, scangauge 2, diesel care secondary fuel filter, Tin's bash plates and actuator gaurd, 2in Bilstien and kings lift,

                              • I have been reading through hundreds of posts on this but i am still confused as to the link between injector longevity and egr restriction. Can someone explain it simply? Also, what is the simplist way to diy install a restricting plate. My wagon is at 15,000km and if its not a complete mission to install a restrictor i will, otherwise it can wait until the motor hits 120,000km and i will consider it then
