  • LCMP 6th and 7th July

Hi all. Taking the family to Landcruiser Mountain Park SEQ on the weekend of 6th and 7th of July and was wondering if anyone was going to be in the area or at the park that weekend? Would love to catch up with fellow PP'ers and swap a few stories and check out some tracks. We're going to be there on the Thursday arvo to make the most of the back end of the school holidays.
So if your going to be in the area or would like a weekend of camping and playing on some great tracks drop me a line.

    Cheers

Hi all, had an amazing time at Landcruiser Mountain Park weekend just gone. Packed the family up, wife and I two girls and dog, on Thursday and left Bundy around lunch. Nice gentle drive to Goomerie and then arrived at LCMP around 4pm. Found the park virtualy empty and headed for Trakka to set up camp. It was quickly realised that the warmth of 20 degrees in Bundaberg was far from us with the temp dropping quicker than the PM's opinion poll.
Camp set up, load of wood cut and fire roaring, nothing left to do but tip a few anti freeze into me and settle in for the night. Temp reached a balmy -1 over night and awoke to a magnificent frost and fantastic views.

After a hearty breakfast and a coffee to kick the brain into gear we where set for our adventure to have a look around this brilliant park. For those who have never been or don't know where or what it is, the best way I could describe the park is it's the closest thing I have seen in SEQ to the Victorian High Country. It's a working cattle station with approx 200km's of 4wd tracks rated from easy to "no dear we go up/down that hill". Facilities are fair with plenty of camping spots and toilets and hot showers.
It wasn't long before we ran into some of the locals with it being smack bang (pardon the pun) in the middle of dear season.

Ok enough of nature and weather, time for some fun stuff. We decided to takle a few of the yellow rated tracks and these can be very deceptive with some of the yellow not a real challenge and some on the edge of being classed as red. One such track was Telecom Hill, so named as it's about the only place at the park you can receive phone service. This starts out all gentle and kind but quickly progresses into a very steep rocky and sometimes slippery ascent and an even trickier descent.
I wacked the rear locker on for some assurance, and also partly because I love using the lockers, and after the wife and youngest opting to be photographers, off we set.
Relatively easy and a hell of a lot of fun until almost the top whereby the rear muffler came down a bit hard on a rock and I now have a much throatier sounding V6.

The next day we rose to a very similar morning as the day before, being cold, not as cold though, and a glorious sunny day. Another big breaky and coffee, tribe packed, it was off to tackle some more of what LCMP could throw at us.
Decided to check out the rain forest and surrounds and by this time friends in a 100 series had made the journey so it was safety in numbers. After tackling all of the yellow tracks I discovered a clicking sound from the left front. It had probably been there a while but couldn't hear it over the new modified exhaust. This got me looking for somewhere to get the front left off the ground to check the cv.
CV diagnosed decided to make the best of a bad situation and have a play with some flexing and tripods.
All ended well, Prado got us home safe and sound, will spend the weekend doing repairs then off to Straddie the following weekend.
Highly recommend anyone thinking of venturing to this park to do so. The level of tracks are amazing, facilities brilliant and you get to spend all day every day touring and exploring. If you get an offer to go, take it, as the parks for sale and who know's what's around the corner. All though having said that it has been for sale for two years.

            Cheers

It's amazing how that place changes.
The first couple of time I' went to LCMP that side of Telecom hill used to be what I'd call a green rated track and now it's causing some grief, putting cars on their sides etc...
I even drove up the other side in my stock 90 series before the heavy rains washed all the soil away to reveal a very rutted and rocky hill.
Looks, like you had the park to yourselves... gotta be happy with that
              Cheers, Leon
There's no such thing as a wrong turn... it's just the scenic route!

Your not wrong Snaga. The tracks have changed even in the last 3 years since I was there last. We even found ouselves on a track that didn't seem to be on any of their maps. Not that there's anything wrong with a bit of adventure though.
It was excellent to have the tracks all to ourselves, and I can not even remember pulling over to let another car through.
If there was a down side it would be that you have to search a bit harder to get some decent wood, but if that's the worst thing that's going to happen over a weekend then your pretty much gauranteed to have a good one.

                Cheers
