Hi Jeffers, stupid question perhaps but doesn't the 150 already have recovery points/tow hooks? If so what makes the Outback Ideas ones better? Just trying to learn :-)

Not to steal Jeffers thunder, but in answer to fido's question, what all cars have fitted are tie down points, not recovery points. The forces involved in a recovery situation are much greater than what a tie down point could typically handle safely, hence the reason to fit aftermarket points.

Thats right fido, Madkore is correct.
There are a few threads about the differences between the "standard" tie down points and the "after market" tow points.
You will also find that these are not "rated" recovery points as there are too many grey areas with having them rated. In saying that though, these after market points are much more reliable than the standard factory tie down points.
There are some people out there who will not even attempt to recover you without the correct points fitted to your vehicle.

All I can say is, now I'm recoverable!

        Cheers,

        Jeff

Well I have decided to add a Airtec snorkel and some diff breathers to the list of mods. I can highly recommend the guys at TJM Brendale as they really looked after me and my Prado.

                Thanks Hutch,

Cant remember the brand name, but its the diff breathers that have the logo of the little round diff breather man...

I just asked Darren at TJM Brendale to sort it out for me, and thats what he did!

                Happy Days!

                Cheers,

Well I have booked in for next week to have a 2" lift by TJM Brendale.

                  I'm going with,
TJM XGS Gold Springs (I believe they are manufactured by King Springs)
                  Bilstein Offroad Shocks.

Also in the coming weeks I will be installing the following,
Uniden UH7760NB UHF with LCD Speaker Mic
                  Redarc Brake Controller
Anderson Plug for caravan battery charging
The Famous TG150 Guard (Thanks Brains)

Ill try to get some pics and post them as I go.

                  Cheers,

                  Jeff

                    Hi Jeffers,

When you fitted your OI Recovery Points did you have to feed the nut plate attached to the wire gizmos through a chassis hole? I'm told the hole should be forward of the suspension spring and behind the top bolt hole for the recovery point but on the Kakadu at least on the passenger side I can't see it (there is a rectangular hole up behind the spring though). My points are Roadsafe ones but the principle is the same.

                    Cheers,
                    Fido666

                      Hi Fido666,

I actually didn't even use the nut/backing plate/wire thingy as I didn't get one when I bought my recovery points.

I used a M10 x 120 long 8.8 High Tensile Bolt and went straight through the chassis rail to the other side. I then used a spring washer and a nylock nut to secure the bolt and of course flat washes as well.
There is plenty of clearance on the inside of the chassis rail and there is no chance of squashing the chassis rail either.
This method means for a quick install also.

                      Hope this makes sense?

                      Cheers,

                      Jeff

So you have a bolt running all the way through the chassis rail and no nut inside it?

I get it Jeffers but don't think that's an option for me as the bull bar mounts to the same bolt holes.

Well I'm off to TJM Brendale tomorrow to get my 2" lift, so I thought I'd take a few measurements pre lift.

                              FRONT
                              Drivers Side - 750mm
                              Passenger Side - 762mm

                              REAR
                              Drivers Side - 780mm
                              Passenger Side - 792mm

I always thought it looked a little loped sided. So it leans 12mm to the drivers side. Must be a KDSS thing.

I'll take some measurements tomorrow afternoon to see if it levels up at all.
