When servicing the Prado last week I noticed that the front pads were on the limit, and with rotors at their minimum thickness there was no option to machine them. Took the recommendation of someone who had them fitted to their 95 already, and picked up a slotted rotor and pad combo for $175 on ebay.
They arrived in 2 days and were really easy to fit, and now that they are bedded in the improvement in braking performance is marked. Before I fitted them I decided that the calipers could do with some bling, so cleaned them with brake cleaner and painted them with aluminium colour heat proof paint (using the old pads and rotor and some cardboard as a mask, just a light coat to clean them up a bit).
Also thought that the non-pad-contact areas of the rotor would benefit from some heat proof paint to keep them from rusting, so cleaned off the preserving grease that the rotors came with and gave the pad contact area an extra coat of grease before painting the rotors. Cleaned off grease with turps and then metho.
Everything went together easily, a very cost effective product with added performance benefit. Pictures show the original brakes and the new ones. The installation process is very straghtforward as per this handy guide: http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...or-replacement
