  • Best Diesel Fuel?

I've had a read through as many threads as I could and can't find a discussion on which diesel fuels are the best.

I've found threads on BiDiesel etc... but people mention, "use good quality Diesel" but nowhere does anyone mention brands.

    I guess to start with...

The Diesel that Woolworths Servos supply... is that any good as I do like getting my 8c / lt discounts
    Cheers, Leon

I personally think BP is best, I like their ultimate.

    They guarantee cetane rating etc.

I've also used caltex in farm equipment. But the prado only sees BP fuel.

Agree with Wooley, not that I have had to fill up yet in the new diesel, but BP Ultimate has less sulphur (pp/l or pp/m), the lower the sulphur content the better..

I will only use BP Ultimate diesel, until I am proven wrong

Used shell, caltex vortex and now switched to BP. Don't know if it was a coincidence or not but I started having injector dramas again after using a tank full or caltex vortex.

I agree, have switched to BP, the hesitation at around 2400 RPM has decreased dramatically. I also regularly use a diesel fuel additive.

                Wow, thanks everyone.
I knew 'oils ain't oils' and figured it'd be the same with diesel.
Looks like BP it'll be then

Actually both BP Ultimate and Caltex Vortex are produced to the Australian minimum standard cetane index of 46 with a typical cetane index of 52. The Australian minimum standard cetane NUMBER is 51.

This is identical to the European EN 590 standard which people keep bandying about when they say that the European standard is better than Australia's when it is in fact exactly the same.

I think the main confusion comes from confusing cetane index (fuel density and distillation range) and cetane number (combustibility)

                  http://www.bp.com/liveassets/bp_inte...ate_Diesel.pdf

This is also true of sulphur content and the European and Australian standards came into effect at pretty much exactly the same time.

                  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EN_590

I personally use Caltex because it's cheaper to start with and I get a minimum of 8c off with my shopping vouchers and 5% off with the RAC.

apologies if I am incorrect but BP cetane value is lower on the east coast isn't?

Lease agreement comes with Star card, so no choice for me. Haven't had any issues with Caltex Vortex though.

I use mostly Caltex but after all the talk here about BP, I tried that a while ago.

The BP diesel foamed a lot more and made it hard to fill the tank. Fuel consumption also seemed to increase.

So now, I've gone back to Caltex.

Was using Caltex due to the discount, but BP for the last 12 months.

My 150 is leased for the first 3 years, the fuel card is a Motorpass. I only fill up at BP's as they specify their diesel is at least 50% cetane or higher, every fill up so far and every kilometer is documented automatically on fill up on my lease report. Im pretty happy with this as if theres ever an injector problem i have 3rd party proof i have only ever used BP Ultimate.

Have been using BP Ultimate for the last 5 years, never had any engine dramas. My old hilux 3 ltr turbo had done 200,000+ Km's with BP and still ran like new. I now have a Prado and will only use BP Ultimate Diesel.
