  • King oem shocks

    Hi all,

I have reacently ordered a set of king oem shocks from the US for my prado 150. They have released a model for the prado which are close to the FJ cruser with stiffer springs. They offer a 2 inch lift in a coil over configuration its also a piggy back system that's adjustable.
The thing that made up my mind about the kings is there progressive action. They start soft for on the road then once pushed the harden up through the stroke. The other brands in the same class use a digressive system which is the same consistency through the stroke.
I will be testing them out soon when do some 4x4 travel from the pilbara up the canning stock route then on to Alice Springs. Then looping back for a drive on the gun barrel highway.

    Cheers,
White prado 150 GX, cooper ST maxx, gms two way, black duck seat covers with wool inserts, Alloy bar, DIY rear drawers, cargo barrier, roof rack, 80l fridge, King OEM adjustable shocks, duel battery's, HID high beam 55w, Sat Nav DVD unit with camera front and back.

not familiar with the product at all. However, I have had experience with Ohlins shocks direct from the US. These were meant to be fully adjustable motor sport performance shocks for track days. They were rated highly on the Liberty/Legacy forum.
They were so soft that even on the hardest setting, they offered awesome ride even on our shit roads, just left no room for any performance. Basically unusable unless you wanted to turn a great handling car into a plush Sunday cruiser. Yet when questioned, the supplier and on the forums they said how great they were on the track. Anyway back in the Bilsteins went.

I hope it works out and you have the ability to return them to have them adjusted firmer than what the US settings are. Personally, I will not be rushing out to spend any more of my suspension money on anything created for the US and will only go for a tested in Australia for Australian conditions set up. In My opinion the soft arsed yanks have different ideas, than what people expect form suspension here.

I agree with testing regarding Australian conditions it was something that I considered. This was put together by Darren Mrae he has mentioned it was one of the best set ups he has done in regards to the kings.
He was the reason for the different spring rates and also the development.
So going through a professional I am thinking that they did there home work on the product

He is a suspension specialist who owns a 4x4 shop Darren McRae. He has been involved with tuning bilstein and using fox shocks. He put the kings on a 120 prado to test them which they are performing very well. They can be rebuilt, retuned by replacing the internal plates and have a 20 position clicker for on the go adjustments.
If you blow an oring the kings also have a kit to repair them.
I'm not sure if I can put his name up but he's a well known suspension dealer.

yes, he used to post on the forum, is he still around?
Anyone know why he doesn`t appear here anymore?

Admin: He was banned after apparent issues between him and a now removed moderator. Nothing to do with the forum physically, more a deal gone wrong I understand.

Sounds like an awesome setup mate. How much did that set you back? I just had both my rear Bilsteins blow out on me and am looking for a replacement shock in the rears. Did you order the kit from a supplier in the US or through Darren?

I got it through Darren and I would say the price would vary with the strength of our dollar. Everyone is now investing in US bonds so their dollar has gone up.
I will attach photos when it gets put in should be here in just over a week.

Yep. Something happened and he was banned by a mod that is no longer.... nothing to do with the forum however after that issue we also dont allow free advertising of said shop.

If they wish to become a corporate member it would be looked at.

Any update on how the King Shocks are going?
I find my new 2014 Prado a bit "floaty" and just took a ride in Dads 79 series cruiser ute.
Unbeleivable difference! And doesn't buck like the utes do.
What springs did you use with the shocks?
