G'day Steve, up bush at the moment. Will have a look tomorow and take some pics and measurements. in a nutshell the bit of pipe I used was just laying around under the bench with my spare /off cut bits of metal.

The hose is 5/8 10 bar heater hose. it has an id of 15mm. Seems to fit on the barbs & motor hose fittings fine and nips up nice and tight with 14 to 22 mm hose clamps. The piece of tube I used is 15mm int dia,about 1mm steel and 5.5 cm long, it does not have to be exactly that long but that is what I had. Presently being technicaly challenged and having trouble getting the photo from my phone to the tablet.

Well, I finally got around to making up my catch can mounting bracket and completing the install. I couldn’t mount my can where footoo had done because of the lack of space (my 2008 1KD GXL has the brake unit taking up that area), so I decided that the best place for me to mount the can was in the spot where the 2nd battery would go (I already have my 2nd battery up against the passenger firewall so this spot is free). There are pre-drilled and tapped holes there for the 2nd battery tray install so I used these. The mounting bracket was made from 5mm thick steel and the dimensions were 4cm wide x 18cm base x 16cm height. The guys at the steel supplier shop put the bend in it for me ($10 supplied & bent). I ended up purchasing the same can as footoo has from eBay. They seem like a good solid unit and it cost around the $50 mark. I purchased the hose (15mm ID oil resistant low pressure), clamps and 15mm male to male connector from Purple Pig at Rocklea for $22.

The Intercooler was removed for better access. As footoo said disconnect/pull out the end of the right angle hose that goes into the rocker cover but don’t remove the hose from the pipe that goes to the inlet side of the turbo. You need to rotate the hose 180 degrees and connect the male to male connector into it. Route one new hose from the rocker cover to the can. The other hose comes back from the can, into the other end of the male to male connector. Tighten up the clamps and you’re done.

All up the install took about an hour to complete.

Because I had removed and cleaned the intake elbow and manifold about 3000klms ago I decided to buy a can of Wynns EGR4 ($24 for 150ml!!) to make sure the complete air intake system was squeaky clean. A fairly easy job and hopefully it will negate the need to ever have to remove the throat and intake manifold for de-gunking!

Hi all,
I purchased mine from ebay for about $45 from memory, plus some hose from Repco for about $5. hose clamps and bolts I had in the shed. Took around 1 hour to do the install complete with flushing out the intercooler and piping.

there's no sign of oil in the sight tube as yet and its been in for a bit over 10000km.

During my most recent oil change last weekend I decided to remove the top of the catch can and see how effective it was. I had installed the can back in August and had done approximately 10,000 klms. What I found was about 10mm of oily water in the bottom of the can with about 1- 2 mm of oily film. I was surprised to see that was the extent of it considering the amount of crud I cleaned out from the inlet manifold and intake elbow (but I suppose that was after 80,000 klm). Which leads me onto my question. My can is a hollow vessel with a line coming in from the rocker cover and one leaving the can to go to the inlet side of the turbo (see pictures from earlier post). Should there be some sort of medium in the can to assist with trapping the oil vapors or is the hollow vessel sufficient? A gauze or filter of some sort?

That's why many of us went with the ProVent system. It has a removable filter and built in pressure relief valve as well as a drain feature.

Can you expand on the filter? Is it a metal gauze, paper or foam type filter? Is it cleanable or do you replace it every so often?

It's a gauze like material around a plastic frame. You can replace it but you could also probably clean it up with a little effort. I think it's recommended to replace it every 20K.

Does anyone have photos of a Provent system on a 120 where there is a second battery already installed at the front of the engine bay, or otherwise suggestions where it might actually fit?

Mumsrig has the 1kz and sleeky has the 1kd, so not as much room, I doubt it would fit in that spot.
