  • Hayman Reese 120 Towbar

It appears there are numerous versions of the HR 120 towbar. I am trying to identify the part number of the towbar that mounts to the crossmember and chassis. I have this pic and wondering who owns this 120?

I just had a new hayman reese towbar fitted in place of the toyota towbar, the boys at UV4Z4 at brendale did the hard work for me, i thought i was just getting the replacement type towbar similer to the toyota towbar what a surprise to find the one in above photo fitted instead, i don't mind the gap as in the above photo, had the Tekonsha P3 brake controller fitted as well.
I have the round 7 pin trailer plug fitted to the towbar on a plate that keeps it higher and out of the way so it out of the wat 4X4 ing.

Hey Sandman do you have any pics? Does it hang down a lot or is it just the picture? I am worried about it being a grader blade.

Have just fitted one myself, it only hangs down a little bit. Don't notice it too much at all. It's the new version for the 120 series. Cost me $416 with all the bolts, nuts, tongue, ball and wiring. Then took me all day to fit the damn thing as the holes on each end of the part that bolts onto the chassis don't line up without a bit of persuasion.

I ended up using a highlift jack tied to the section and pushing against the chassis until the holes lined up, then rinse and repeat on the other side. Was told by the towbar place that it's how they fit and the guys just use big prybars to force it in. Apart from that it's an easy fit and I already had the wiring from my OEM towbar. BIG difference in strength, genuine having 6 bolts, HR one having 12 bolts.

Oh and is the hitch itself lower than the OE hitch?

Thanks Sandman, from your pic it looks like the bottom of the bar that is mounted to the chassis is level with the exhaust height from the ground. If that makes sense?

Oh and is that the Toyota factory bracket for your trailer socket?

That's about right with how it looks, doesn't stand out too much even after you take the oem one off and leave the cutout, considering I paid as much for my factory fitted one as this one, one wonders how they justify the price for the little bit of cast they use.

Oh and the actual towball is no more than about 10mm lower than the stock one.

The trailer socket was from the toyota bar and was fitted as you see it on the hayman reese bar.
I'm lot happier to tow now this bar is fitted at 3 points now instead of the 1 point with toyota bar.

Sorry to be a pain but if you run a string line from where the back edge of the tyre leaves the road to the bottom edge of the bumper does the cross bar between the chassis rails foul the string line or does it miss it? Trying to work out if it affects departure angle.

From the bottom edge of the bumper what's the measurement to the bottom edge of the hitch receiver? Finally what is the measurement from the bumper out to the front face of the hitch receiver?

Had the HR bar fitted after somebody forgot to stop and smashed my bumper, so the lot needed to be replaced. I still need to relocate the electrics to the bar, I didn't realise it comes with 2 tabs for plugs. Very pleased with the result.

If not can anyone else recomend a good quality place to get one fitted?

The bar is a Hayman Reese 02912RW. HR are working on an updated version that fixes a few issues. Any towbar place that stocks HR will be able to get it.
