  • TJM Side Steps - Install

    Hi All,

Got the new TJM Side Steps Today and fitted them up, as I have not seen many posts / pictures around yet I thought I would post my install.

Taking the Old Side Steps off was VERY easy, 6 Bolts on each side and they came straight off. Very light, you'll see them in the "for sale" section soon. Here's a picture of the 150 without the side steps on, looks allot meaner!

    TJM Side Step Build
Component, build quality and fitting was top quality. I was very impressed, a positive was that they were lighter that I expected. Here's all the goodies ready to unbox...including the T13 bullbar...

Firstly I had to attach mounting brackets to the frame of the car, fairly straight forward. Strong looking mounts, special "channels" for the handbrake cable..

Once these are mounted its a simple case of fitting up the bar work to the mounts, you can see from the "boxed" sections in the pictures below they are built to collapse on side impact (I am presuming). Hopefully this does not effect the weight they can support....being the car on a rock or rut!

There is a separate piece of bar work at the front that attach's, this is to allow for fitting of "brush bars" if desired.
Couple of marks on them from shipping, lucky they were on the underside so plenty more marks to come and no big deal..

Overall it tool me 3 hours to fit the with my 2 and 4 year old's helping, if I had Air tools this would be a 1.5 hour job.

Bullbar is currently in the shed, have spent the arvo / night starting to prep it for Paint over the weekend. Will post separate thread with Photo's.

Excellent looking steps, will add to the list of things to want, and try and get past the minister for finance. I see a trip to TJM O'Connor in my future shortly - so many goodies so little money.

                  What did they cost Bernie?
                  Would they fit a 120?

                    Gumboot: Steps were $550,
I do not think they will fit the 120 because they mount to existing holes in the frame from which the bar work hugs the body tightly to the front and rear guards.

Not sure if TJM are making them for the 120? Anyone?

                    Bernie

I purchased the bullbar at the same time, got a deal for both.

Bull bar has been sprayed today and is currently baking in the garage.

Ah fair enough. Still, I'm going to push a bit harder on price now.

Not waiting for ARB any more, it's been over a year since they said they'd be out...

                            ARB have these sidesteps http://arb.com.au/products/general-a...ries/kingsley/
Are they any good, they don`t look like they would offer any more protection than the standard sidesteps.
Do these TJM make allowances for airbags on side impact?

They're made by kingsley and they're rubbish. Very light aluminum design, I'd suggest they're worse than the factory steps.

ARB will eventually have proper steel steps. Although they will have lost all their sales to TJM by then.
