I had these on my patrol for 4 years prior to getting my Prado. The will last about 90k on the patrol and are a bit noisy at about 80kmh but the patrol had engine and road noise above and below that drowned it out.

Main trouble I had was the front two kept delaminating at the white writing, there was a problem with the manufacturing and these flow cracks would appear all around the bead. You won't see them with the white facing in though so be careful.

Off road at 18psi they are excellent, heaps of grip and steering control. On road they are like most coopers, fine in the dry and awful in the wet. Prob not so bad in the AWD and ESC TC prado.

I ran 35psi in the 2.7T patrol and that was still firm, the LT structure was strong, compared to the AT bridgstone that they come with I had to run them at 42psi because of two ply sides.

Just completed a two week trip through the Vic high country with ST Max's. Very happy in all conditions, tarmac, dirt, rocky climbs and muddy river crossings. Used 22 psi off road for grip and 30 on gravel to smooth the corrugations. Never felt any hint of loss of traction except one little section on Billy Goats where lockers would have helped.

They are a clear improvement on the previous ST's for noise and grip. I have yet to see what the wear is like.

Hey Dazz, see if they have them in 245/75/17. My GX came with this size in a Goodyear Wrangler when I purchased it S/H. This size tyre is only 3.5mm smaller overall diameter than a 265/70/17 which is also a very popular size for the GXL boys.

          Cheers Brad

I fitted the S/T Maxx's to mine at 70k, now have 113k and still have 8+mm of tread on them. Do a fair bit of towing with a 1.5 tonne enclosed bike trailer over gravel roads, also had them on the beach at Tim's thicket, South of Mandurah, had to let them down quite a bit there though. Also had them on various tracks through the Pilbara
I normally run 36 front, 38 rear - increase this to 42 when towing, but have noticed that it still rides a bit harsh, so may experiment with a bit lower.
3rd set of Coopers I have owned (2 sets on a Pootrol, A/T and ST/C) and very happy with them so far.
The S/T Maxx's are a little noisier than I expected and could probably have gone for the A/T3 instead.
            I'd recommend them to anyone.
            Kev,

Just got mine. 265/70/17 also. Love em. Very stable offroad, little to no noise at all on road. Highly recommend them.

Heading up the Stockton this Sunday to test them on the sand, the side biters should do a good job for turns.

              I got mine from http://www.australiasbest.com.au/ for $350 / corner

Can you fit the spare wheel cover over this size tyre?

There seems to be mixed results depending on what tyre brand fit under the cover in a 265/70/17.

Hi KO7624 - They don't fit under a 120 wheel cover. I just added one of these $20 soft covers for sun protection.

                  <Edit>
I must add they are a tight fit on a new tyre

X2 I am ready to change over, and want to go the Coopers ST's again. Got 110,000 out of them on the 120

Has anyone fitted the standard hard cover over a 265/70/17 Cooper ST Max.

<edit> Tyre dealer has said "yeah, should be right" Just looks a very tight fit to me, and I want to retain the hard cover on the 150.

                    Thanks

Certainly couldn't fit over mine, removed the entire cover and backing plate, you will also have to space out the carrier from your door or they will rub on the door. Ensure that you use something similar to the Kaymar wheel on door spacer to spread the load evenly and not damage the carrier.
The Coopers are also quite a bit heavier than the OEM Dunlop's.

So I had my cooper st max 265/70/17 fitted 34k ago August 2012. I've been getting sawing on the steer tyres, even though I rotate & balance every 10k (by specialised 4x4 shop not toyota dealer). I'm also getting splitting/tearing? Refer to photos. I have always aired up after going offroad before hitting the blacktop and have my tyres inflated to 37psi. Any idea why I'm getting this splitting/tearing????

I know some who had that splitting from new and had the tyres replaced. Cooper say it isn't critical, but I would have a go. Apparently there was a bad batch around that time.

The tyres need to be cross rotated to remove the "saw tooth".

Ive put 90k+ on my mine and never had a flat ;-)

About to do a 11k trip on them up to Darwin and Kakadu then I'll replace ;-)

Can't fault them. Yes noisier than hwy tyres but you not too bad by all accounts... (haven't tried others)

Great on road grip even in the wet.

Off road is also great and only have got bogged in full mud when even muddies would be struggling.
