    Hi All,

Of those who have fitted the Scoop, how many D4D or 1KD-FTV have been done?
Also, has there been any flexing of the bonnet, given that you cut several strength Ribs, near the back of the bonnet to fit the scoop?

I have a scoop, but every Panel beater I go to, advise me not to do it, given that you do cut the strength ribs.
But If I must do it, get another bonnet first.

    Please advise

    Stuart

      Stuart,

I would make sure that all the corners have a rounded cut to prevent cracks starting. If possible put a doubler plate underneath. This is what they do when repairing aircraft skin. Not sure how practical it is on a Prado.

It would be good to compare the ribs on the Hilux.

No problems at all with ours. I think you will find that SIKALFEXING it on will make it just as strong if not stronger as it bonds the scoop to the metal hood and almost becomes as one.

No problems after 12 months and 25,000km including 6500 to SA GTG last year and 9000 this year through WA deserts and NT bush.

Looks Great. The only problem that I see with that is that a fair bit of the structural frame has been cut away - did not need to do that with the older Hilux scoop.

              Jamieprado,

The scoop I purchased is from a 2011 Hilux and is different from Bush Basher's show in image [img=http://s8.postimage.org/khu8kn4yp/IMG_3764.jpg]. Mine has 4 molded bolt retaining bosses along the leading edge whereas Basher's has no retaining bolts along the leading edge. The trouble my panel beater has found during fitting is that these 4 molded bolt retaining bosses won't allow the scoop to sit flush along the leading edge unless you cut out 4 "notches". I see jamieprado in the photo above (page 9 - the image with the guy with a cigarette) that the 4 notches are being cut. I am assuming he is doing this to allow the scoop to sit flush along the leading edge? My question is, how have you secured the scoop along the leading edge because once these notches are cut out there's nothing to secure the bolts to? Have you made up some other sort system to secure the scoop along the front edge?

The rear cut for me was parallel with the leading edge of the bonnet strut running east/west. The right side cut was north/south straight through front to rear from the right hand leading edge of the scoop where it dips down into the bonnet. The left cut was diagonal on a line from where the scoop left front leading edge dips down into the bonnet to a point at the rear cut directly above the original lower vent line. The rubber seal did not need to be removed just be careful with the forward cut. Mark and drill the locating bolts. The 2 forward locating bolts need to have the hole opened up where it passes through the lower bonnet skin in order to allow a deep socket to pass through. Use masking tape to secure the washers under the outer bonnet skin for these 2 bolts before assembling the scoop.
                G'Day Bushbasher,

I have ordered an original bonnet scoop (latest version) and was wondering besides the info above and photos that you have submitted, is there any other tips/issues I should know. I will be getting the paint shop to install the scoop.

They will find that it needs to sit forward so that the rear edge is away from the rise at the back of the bonnet. I removed the plastic scoop from the left side of the grill. I figured this would allow more direct airflow onto my tranny cooler and, now that the scoop was fitted, I didn't need the direct airflow through the grill mounted scoops which feed air into the channels inside the bonnet which eventually dumps onto the intercooler. There's no need for sikaflex with my scoop. There has been no de-forming of the bonnet since installation so don't worry about cutting the centre support.

                    • G'day guys,.. I was just wondering if the template is in the Hilux Scoop at all when ordered fro toyota?,.. I am going into my dealership tomorrow to order one and the associated bits and pieces, and hopefully get it done next week. Or failing that, would anyone happen to have the dimensions of where to cut the bonnet??
I am not going to do this myself, I am looking at getting a panel and paint shop here in Newcastle to do it (have to to decide who yet),.. I just ant to give them as much info as possible for when they do the job.

                      Cheers

                      • There's no template because the hole is pressed into the Hilux bonnet skins when manufactured. Any good panel beater can cut the hole, fit the scoop and paint it up. I did my own cut and fit. The panel beater cleaned up the edges and did the paint. I also got him to spray a scratch on the left front over-fender while they were at it.

                        • I just purchased a Hilux bonnet bulge (right one this time) of this ebay seller:

                          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Genuine-T...937a482&_uhb=1

They have one left. To get the same item through Toyota it will cost you $300.

                          Happy Easter...

                            Hey Winniliss,

Have you recieved it yet? whats the quality like? Looks like ABS plastic so guessing its on par with OEM.

I have been keen on this mod for a little while now and PP comes to the rescue again with my procrastination.

I have a few scratches and scuffs from bloody Mundaring Power Lines like Bushbasher, so hopefully get them cleaned up nicely and looking respectable again.

                            • I should be getting it Tue or Wed. It is a genuine item with all the mounting points so it should be ok. Will update this post once I get it.

                                Jamie,

How did you go bolting this to the bonnet along the leading or front edge? Did you use bigger washers?

Picked it up today. Has been sitting at Aust Post since the 6th but that's another story. The scoop is very good. It comes with the seal and mounting bolts but not the nuts. They are $18 for 10 from Toyota. To fit it I have been quoted $550 and to respray the bonnet as it's starting to fade from the sun it's $1000 all up.
