Hehe. I knew that would stir up a counter view. Of course there are good elecs with differing opinions. Most of the debate seems to be around maintaining a secure earth point and also earth potential between battery and rear chassis. Measure and decide or just run twin for belts and braces. Don't get me wrong, at times belts and braces are good insurance. Just depends on the application. I should point out I only use my rear Anderson for lighting today.

When running off a second battery I always run twin. Any good auto electrician would agree to run twin.

What is the difference between a earth on the chasis at the rear or at the battery? The battery is earthed to chasis at the front. Hence a earth link at the back is just as good as earthing it at the battery. Plus the fact when you start using big cable's like 6b&s and above it gets expensive.

Please don't take offence as I am only a mechanic that works in auto electrical workshop.

I agree. Twins are the go. Oh we were talking about wiring? Oooops.

I ran two individual cables cos it was cheaper than a twin. Defo run an earth wire, you are talking $15-30 of cable (depending on size) in a $60k+ vehicle - I reckon you can afford the cost

Individual cables are easier to get through the firewall grommet and easier to run than a twin

I'm with you Chaser. Also, the chassis is the biggest cable you will ever pass current through. So potential difference between battery-terminal earth and rear-point earth will be more zero than a 6B&S which has effectively twice the current path.

The only other concern is finding a secure connection, for which there are many. I'm a fan of single cable to the rear, unless someone can articulate otherwise.

The chassis is the best earth, however if you get a bad earth you may get voltages in places that you shouldn't. In cars with lots of electrics this can cause major issues, so I always run an earth cable.

                    Hi Guys
Some very good views in this thread.
Personally I believe that the internal chassis rail is an ideal path to run well insulated cable to the rear of the Prado.
My Son and I (5 years old at the time), managed to run ABR Sidewinder twin cable with brake controller wire.
Through the chassis from behind the Prado tow bar and down the left side chassis rail to just infront of the fire wall to the auxillary battery circuit breaker. This was not an easy task, and is only posible with the use of a stout draw cord (SS wire rope) or the like.
This ABR Cable is 6 B&S 13mm2 140 amp rating and is well insulated while still being quite flexible:
                    Starts here:
Cable enters chassis behind left wheel covered in split tube.
Finishes at the Anderson plug, shown here with plug cover fitted.

                    Cheers
                    Troy

From my experience you can get right through the chassis from from front to rear on the 120 but the 150 chassis is blocked near the rear wheel .

Hi All, just an update, on a brand new 2014 GXL, the left hand chassis rail is uninterrupted from the rear all the way to the front and it's quite easy to run a steel cable snake through here and pull wire through. Have just done this on my 1 week old Prado.
I know this is an old thread, but it came up when I was searching for tips so hopefully it can help someone else.
                        Cheers.

Whilst this thread is about getting wiring from battery to anderson plug, this thread shows some pictures of getting wiring (6 B&S) to cargo area for second battery.
                            http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...205#post150205

Wiring was then directed to anderson plug at back but no photos sorry.
Here are some other photos, from that installation in no particular order, though the first is through the firewall
