  • Can't select HL or H

    Hi all,
I was out driving on Thursday and after doing a fairly steep rocky section of track in 2nd low (high rpm) I stopped to put Tfr back in high range but couldn't get the selector past neutral. I was about 10k's south of Davies plain hut when it happened and tried to free the diffs the usual way and realized it wasn't the binding thing that is common with 4WD's. Ended up driving all the way home in low range stopping every half hr or so to let things cool down a bit and unwind the diffs. 5 hrs later made it home. Have spoken to a bloke who used to own a 120 series and he thought that there is a clip near the selector forks inside the transfer case that may have come off. Has anyone heard of or experienced this ?
I am just about to dump the oil and see if there is said clip floating around in there.
If so I will go ahead and remove transfer case and see if I can put it back.

Has anyone removed their transfer case, any pointers you can give would be great.
    Cheers
    Phil

Two people with the same issue on the same day http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...g-in-Low-Range Maybe you can swap notes, also a mod to merge the threads might be useful.

Sorry can't help with an answer though.

    Cheers Andrew

Thanks for the link Andrew, will chat with him. Sounds like you had a great time at madigans. Have you pulled out the rear drive shaft before, I was trying to take the bolts out of the flange near the transfer case but couldn't get them to budge , I was trying to be lazy and just undo the front and compress the shaft to get it off, but I couldn't get enough movement in it to do that. Oh well looks like I'm undoing the rear flange as well an take the whole thing out
      Cheers

So the plot thickens... I have pulled out the transfer case and pulled off the back cover and inspection plate, had a good look around in there. Could see that that the high/ low fork was not engaging properly but couldn't see what was fouling it up. Ended up taking it down to the local mechanic who will pull it apart and let me know. After reading the max ellery service manual on it I realized I don't have all the specialist tools required to do a job like this, and it's better handled by someone who knows what their doing. Figured I have saved myself a few hrs labour at least
        Cheers
