  • Dave's 150 D4D

    Hi All,

After just over 3 months the rig has finally arrived, its a 2012 Auto Diesel which I will be modifying for touring over the next few months.

At this stage I only have the Cooper AT3's fitted, it is booked in on Thursday for tinting on the front windows.

I am still finalising mods however at this stage it is looking like:

Either TJM or ARB winch bar (Not convinced which way to go)
Tigerz winch (Will prob fit at the same time as the bar)
    Lightforce 210 HID spots
    RedArc battery management
    ABR Sidewinder battery monitor
    Optimum Battery
    Safari Snorkel
    Haymen Reece hitch
    DIY rear drawers

Heading to TJM and ARB stores next week to finalise and book in for the above.

Does anyone have any experience with ARB completing wiring installs? I am thinking about doing it myself because I am worried about a poor quality job.

    Cheers

    Dave

Looks good. I do all my own wiring. You can spend as much or as little time on it as you like then.

There is nothing more satisfying than smashing out an awesome wiring job.

I think your right Wooley, at least you know exactly where everything is located and how it has been joined, sealed and run.

The dual battery solenoid looks pretty straight forward the only bit I am a little confused with is the winch and running a relay where you can isolate the winch from the cab of the car.

I, or someone else (looking at matt) can draw you a diagram for running relays etc if you need.

Installed the scan gauge today, just need to work out how to bring up ATF temps and whether oil pressure can also be displayed.

Also did a heap of research into what components I am going to install. Went down to the TJM store in O'Connor and chatted to one of the sales guys down there who was a wealth of knowledge.

Got a few more bits and pieces sorted over the weekend. Fixed the Scan gauge error with TFT which was due to an incorrect input into X Gauge, all sorted now.

Next I fitted the MSA front seat covers and some cheap ar-se SCA canvas seat covers for the rear.

            Front Before:

            Front After:

            Back Before:

            Back After:

I was really impressed with the quality of the MSA units, they fitted extremely well and the instructions for maneuvering plastic trim was pretty good. As expected the SCA units are pretty cheap so I might change them out with some MSA units, at the moment the rears seats are barely ever used.

            Cont.

I also removed the third row of seats ready for the rear wiring and drawers, still undecided whether to make my own or buy a pre-fab'ed model such as black widow or outback.

              Cheers

Nice ride! and nice tyre choice I got the same ones fitted by my dealer as well.
Removing the back seats looks like a good option id be interested to see how it looks when it’s done.

Ok, not a major one however the auto window was sorted out a couple of weeks ago during the 1000km check up.

So the build has slowly been progressing with a few bits fitted.

The ICOM radio has gone in, I wanted a setup which has the main body of the radio hidden so that when I am not using it we can hide it away. I also wanted to be able to run a larger antenna for longer trips and the shorter one for around town so went with a 6.6dB and 2.1dB.

So I needed some where to install the antenna.. (Note:Bonnet was popped up in the photo)

With the spotlights it was a down to either the Xray or Lightforce with both having very good reviews. In the end I stuck with the Lightforce due to running these previously and never having any issues.

The boys also fitted the HR tow hitch.

To ensure I had enough power to run both by Waeco and Engel fridges I went with the Redarc isolator and a 105 A/hr deep cycle battery. Also to monitor the battery the ABR Sidewinder monitor was installed however I there is an issue with the wiring because at the moment it will only display charging Voltage and not battery voltage.

To get power to the back a single feed was run with a 50A fuse at the second battery, from there the feed is split into a fuse box where there 12v sockets have been mounted. I have kept spare places in the fuse box for things like the rear camp light etc.

The boys at TJM O'Oconnor did the work and the wiring was absolutely brilliant!! I had some requests for how I wanted things done and the guys completed the job better than expected.

It is heading back to TJM in a few weeks time when the Safari snorkels arrive, at the same time the recover points will be fitted along with the Tigerz Winch.

I went down to ORE to have a look at their Howling Moon roof top tents and I think I am convinced that this is the way to go. The other brands such as ARB, Ironman etc are all very flimsy and the quality of the canvas itself is poor.

                      Cheers

                        Bloody oath!

Good looking build, I like the neat wiring as I myself am very fussy about neat wiring.

                              Dave,

Did you rewire your monitor to suit the Redarc or positive link as the ABR isolator is negative link. I have done mine and it all works fine.

Note: Redarc owners can modify the monitor internally to be dedicated to Redarc SBi type isolators.
