  • QLD Trip - Pine Creek Bundy - April 7 2012

Well whilst in Bundaberg staying with the outlaws for Easter it was decided to get away from the girls for the day and explore Pine Creek which is 15 minutes south of Bundaberg off the Isis Highway. The Pine Creek state Forestry boasts tracks ranging from Mild to Extreme. So accompanying myself was my BIL Shane and his mate Darren in Shane's 100 series.
We headed down Matts Rd off Pine Creek Road and aired down just after an old black bus parked in a bush property.

    Entry point to Matts Rd

Most of the tracks were rutted which kept our speed down to a minimum. In fact our 4 hour trip from start point to finish point took a shade over 4 hrs with only 13.5km covered.

A lot of the tracks are ironstone marbles which punish the tyres and these descents require care.

    Cont'd next post..

Ruts and washouts with tree roots just itching to pierce tyres...

    My turn...

The 'ol Nankangs (Sh&t taiwanese tyres) kinda lack the Mud Clearing Abilities that most AT tyres afford. (Gotta do something about that!)

    Tripod!!!

Heading into a creek bed was fun. Problem was, not knowing the place we found that once we went down some of these tracks, it was quite a struggle to get out...

On one occasion the trek out was too much for the Nankangs! Shane's 100 series Mickey Thompson ATZ 4 Ribs got him out on the first crack. Today was a time for the winch to be used just to get me over the hump...

      Burning rubber!

Shane's 100 series straddling the ruts...

Bundy had a big dump of rain about 3 weeks ago. I can only imagine what these tracks would've been like straight after!

        Another washout to be negotiated

Heading up another hill after exiting a creek bed.

Continuing to follow the track we ended up in a large bowl which was surrounded by some very steep climbs up to the ridge that circles the bowl. Neither of us was game to attempt these today. This was probably the easiest with a nasty angled kick to the left just before the top. Once again, the image just doesn't do it justice... There is no exit out of these climbs, Just a turn around and back down.

So we left the bowl, backtracking for a couple of k's before exiting out

So it was a fantastic 4 hours of fun. Perhaps a weekend away with the SE QLD Crew sometime to explore and tackle some more... Perhaps also some of the local PPers can share some stories on this place?

Tomorrow we're heading out to Moore Park beach to see what that is like. Stay tuned....

Nice pics and nice report. I was down that way when the rains were there, had a crack at trying to find those tracks but didn't have any maps with me and couldn't find the entry. Looking at your photos I'm kinda glad now, with those roads, the rain and my highway tires I probably would have been stuck in there for a while.

                    Dave.

Arrived home and cleaned down the rear LH quarter of the car tonight to reveal this...

                        Not Good!!!
I believe this was sustained by falling into a badly washed out boghole that the car bashed against on the exiting in a hurry.
This is most likely too much for a touch up guy to clean up. There are also some deep scratches on the flare over the door so me thinks it will be an insurance job. ($500 excess - Buggar!!!)
And no, there's not a chance in hell I would be allowed a rear wheel carrier I would say that if I'd had one of these rear carriers, I would be up for a respray here anyway as it is the wifes daily drive.

Craig the only way to stop that sort of damage is with a Kaymar rear bar. There's no point repainting, that would just be a waste of money. You better ask for the approval.

                              How did the TG150 go?
