  • Removing stock roof rails on a 150

    Searched and no luck..

I want to carefully remove my stock GXL roofrails so I can fit up my windcheeta alloy rack.

Has anyone had a go at doing this ? How do you go about it ?

Yep, the 150 is the same as in that post. Takes a bit of force to get some of the covers off, well, more than I expected anyway, but I didn't break anything so that's a bonus

        Hey Matt,

I have the same job planned for this weekend too or maybe it will be Monday. I'll keep an eye out for any new tips, but it sounds like it's all the same as the 120. I'll have to review my old post... thank goodness for the archive .

I followed the instructions as per the post Craigm gave the link to. Pretty straight forward.

Only tip I would add is how you can avoid using a knife altogether. I shoved some dyneema cord in the gap as soon as I pushed or pulled one of the covers. any cord would do it and save possible scratching from a knife slip. Just pull the cover and shove the cord in the gap to prevent that part of the cover from locking back onto it's clip. Repeat for the other parts of the cover that are locked in and before you know it the cover can be removed.

While I like the look of the factory rails, I like the look and practicality of my triple crossbar rhino racks more. W

I did mine last week and it was very easy. I waited until the plastic heated up in the sun and then starting at the front and from the pointy end of the cover eased in a flat blade screw driver. Once you get the two lugs to pop off on the first side it will lift off by its self. Follow the guide above and you cant go wrong.

Excellent post, will remember this one for when I change my racks over, got my eye on a windcheater style rack, need the low height for the garage and versatility of being able to mount my Kayak racks on as well.
Only down side I can see is not being able to clean the roof after its installed - any thoughts?

One of these should do the trick, it's what I use (disclaimer: I have the Pioneer Platform and factory rails) :- http://www.bunnings.com.au/sabco-xl-...e-mop_p4480228
