Firstly, put me down as a definite.

If you decide to split the groups up, may I suggest we meet up at Fredrick Johnson park after completing the track. That will provide a nice spot for trading stories over a few drinks and having a barbie.

For those who have not done this track before, here is the Upper Ormeau track log. This track log dates back to 2009, but it is similar to what we can do on this weekend.

The park I suggest we meet up at after completing the track is Fredrick Johnson Park. It has a small undercover area and ample space for kids to kick a ball, etc. I think there is also a small stream that runs beside it.

    Thoughts?

    LFaR.
PS: It's absolutely bucketing down with rain here on the Goldy at the moment. Promising signs for Upper Ormeau .
Thanks Matt for your confirmation. Well the forecast for Sunday is for sunny skies and a max of 28 (and why wouldn't it be in Qld?).

Looks like it's going to be a great day with a fantastic turnout with lots of familiar names and new faces! Currently the quota is potentially 13 starters with 6 120's and a lowly count of only 5 150's (phew, just bet them! )

Great idea to end the day at Frederick Johnson Park Matt. It's a nice park with plenty of parking space for everyone to air up and enjoy a snag and a chat at the end of the day. Put me in to supply the Snags (I'll get a dozen beef and a dozen chicken) If someone wants to put their hand up for a loaf of Bread and some sauce we'll be sorted for the catering side. (easier to BYO drinks everybody?)

Now that we have the increased numbers, we will definitely split up into groups. It may even come down to 3 groups if needed. My suggestion would be a 20 - 30 minute stagger. If anyone is keen to start earlier (say, 08:00 or even earlier, please post up here or PM me).

Don't forget to keep checking this thread for updates. I will try update as regularly as possible to keep everyone informed.

Just as a warning to all, Ormeau is private property and police have been out there fining people for trespassing in the past. I beleive at one point there was security at the water tower as well. But having said that it was a over a year ago now when they did their big clamp down on the place, Ormeau has been going through this cycle for over 10yrs (police shut it down, we open it back up lol).

btw tracks are rated easy to extreme.... Just YouTube Ormeau tower of terror, misubishi hill, tea cup etc and u will get an idea of whatsv really out there... Also heaps of gully and river runs for those that are game

See u there!!!! Bring your winches and scratchex
Good to have you along dd. I'm looking forward to seeing your locked 120 and all that flex!

We'll bring bread/rolls .... feeling a tad nervous about his trip! I think we'll only go in for the easy/moderate stuff as we're not as experienced and don't have all the gear. I was hoping that our snorkel would have come in and it would be fitted before the trip, but it seems ARB have a shortage on them at the moment which is very irritating!

Not sure what time we'll be there as we're coming from the northside of brisbane (ferny grove) and we're aiming to leave at 7am, but I won't commit us to an earlier start as life happens and we could only just make it by 8:30.

          See you guys sunday

            Bread rolls... Mmmmm fancy!

Thanks Celeste. Like I said, the tracks that we will be doing on Sunday as a group will be easy to moderate. There's only 1 spot that really needs special attention and there'll be plenty of people to guide the uninitiated through. See you on Sunday

Jeff go to Redlands 4wd centre and get a snorkel. They forgot mine apprantly (proberly sold it) but it will be in there shop at lunch. It's a ironman for 297. Im fitting it so will have to buy hole saw, feel free to borrow it if you want. I'm also up for easier track as I don't have a lift kit. Everyone remember to bring a camera!

I'm a 50/50 chance now, my 120 has been at ARB Nundah since Tuesday as they've been fixing the front diff locker.... turns out the last turkey that put in my diff gears in didn't pre-load the bearings enough and it's completely destroyed all the bearings in the diff.... Was supposed to be only a 2 day max job but finding the correct carrier bearings has been an issue, only 1 set in Australia which is getting air baged up here hopefully tonight... if all goes well I will have it back by Sat.

If do come and we split into a few groups, anyone keen to do some slightly more adventurous runs can follow me . I did most of the runs there ages ago before I had all this flex and lockers, so most will make it with the correct line.... although haven't been there in 12 months and that place changes big time after rain!!!!

                        Hopefully see you there!

Most of the tracks you mention I believe are now closed off. We did see a few ominous tracks head off into the bush at the Upper Ormeau Rd end, but what I have seen that is now open is what you see on the GPS and Google maps.

He's kinda right jj95prado.... The dirt road your mate is referring to is the road we have been venturing out on over the last couple of trips that have been posted in the trip reports section and the route is shown on post 57. (Ive posted the links below).
Like I said, The track/road we are taking on Sunday is Easy to Moderate with a few fun bits in between. It's a nice, relatively short track (only a couple of Kms in total), but technical enough for it to take a few hours to get through due to the number of cars we have coming along. I'm sure everyone will enjoy themselves. We also need to be aware that we wont be the only people on the track (I understand rob_macca67 will be up there in his Zook with another group also) There are a few tracks/roads that I have seen also that I am not prepared to take my Prado down (lockers and 33" terrain in my inexperienced mind) I'm aware double_d69 is mad keen to find some more extreme tracks (if he can get his diff repaired in time). I'd like to explore what else is up there also (curiosity gets the better of ya) But my Prado isnt as well equipped as dd and it's SWMBO's daily drive, so I have to remind myself of that (constantly ) We just need to be aware also that alot of this area is now deemed as private property. We are lucky to have what is available to us to enjoy so close to where we live. (25 min away for me anyhow..)
