  • Which snorkel is better

Hi everyone. I was just wondering you the experience of you all, which snorkel is better. Is it the arb safari or the tjm airlec. Which would be better for the 150 prado. Cheers

    Ford vs holden
Canon vs nikon etc etc pick one their both great, I liked the look of the Airtech but the ARB is spot on.

This has been done to death on a number of threads. Try using google and use the syntax "which snorkle + pradopoint.com" and you'll get some results. heres a start... Safari or Airtec? or Snorkel for 150 series

I do like the look of the air tech one, it's even cheaper than the arb one.

The Safari looks more "manly", the Airtech more "feminine", that's my rationalisation anyway I think they are both very good quality and it just comes down to personal preference.

Agree, Safari looks tougher, like it's meant to be on an off road vehicle.

              Hello Darwinsam,

Depends what you need. If you are going to fit a Ram type inlet either will do fine. The TJM may even collect more ram effect air because it will get the benefit of air hitting the windscreen and racing up the windscreen and over the roof. If you drive up scrubby tracks the ARB or Safari will catch more undergrowth than the TJM.

If you want to fit a Cyclonic type prefilter you probably should go with the ARB or Safari because they sit the inlet up straight and accept a cyclonic prefilter head easily.

Other than these differences take your pick, there is little else between them both.

              regards

              Ross

Or the Airtech looks more modern (suits the modern 150) the ARB looks more 60 series land cruiser.

Agree with Kakadaz, I think the Airtech suits the look of the 150 better and will be ordering one a couple of weeks. It all came down to personal preference.

                    Hi Guys

I believe apart from personal ascetics being the ultimate choice of snorkel there is advantages and disadvantages between the two types.

The safari type looking snorkels allow you turn the head around (Driving in snow/ throwing up allot of water towards the rig) This can not be done with the body hugging ones and if a high volume of water runs up the windscreen it also gets directed towards the snorkel that cannot be rotated instead of the water going around the back of snorkel and it is led directly towards the mouth of it.... Also do the all-in-one snorkels (Roof hugging) drain the access water at the back of the head when driving into heavy rain like the safari looking types?

At the end of the day it is what you prefer to look at and personal choice!

                    Cheers

This is why I picked a Safari. I have never had to turn the head around, but like a lot of this equipment, you don't need it very often, but when you do it could save you.

Bare in mind airtech would have facted heavy rain into their design. The air intake holes don't sit hard up against the body or windscreen there is sufficient gap along the bottom to ket water off the screen pass under and the actual holes have a skirt around them to prevent water entry. I opened my air box after dring in terential rain and all was bone dry.

The safari snorkel won't be suitable if you get an Artic Truck conversion done in the future I know its a long shot but ya never know
