  • Upgrading 03 Grande Satnav to another Toyota unit

The satnav on my 03 Grande is only useful for the navigation and reverse camera. The CD changer is a separate unit under the passenger's seat (which makes it difficult to change CDs while out and about) and it is out of date in terms of no MP3 capability, no aux in and no bluetooth. I was planning on the Dig_Options unit but put it off due to some feedback on buggy software.

So I've decided to stick with another Toyota unit that has an in-built CD stacker, bluetooth for phone and audio streaming, 3.5mm aux in, USB and most importantly a screen for the reverse camera.

The previous owner already installed a genuine Toyota reverse camera. It is an Eclipse brand and it had Toyota style connectors on th wiring loom at the dash end.

The ebay seller included this wiring harness which allows a Toyota reversing camera to be plugged into the back of the headunit. My local Toyota spare parts guy advised me that this wiring harness is required because of the different camera voltage. Cost is $20-$25 from Toyota.

The wiring harness contains 2 inline taps which I didn't need to use. I assume that it will tap into the reverse light signal or something.

I put some bungy cord across the top and it is looped through the vanes on the vents.

This is how my phone (HTC Incredible S with Otterbox Defender case) is held in place. It doubles as a GPS running CoPilot

This is my Acer A501 tablet with a rooCASE hung on the bungy cord. I'm running Androzic which reads OziExplorer maps.

This is the USB drive I use to store all my MP3s. It is a LaCie MosKeyTo 16GB. It is a very low profile and PP was the source of the info when the 150 first came out with the USB port in the centre console

OK, was yours new or removed from a vehicle?

Removed from a vehicle. Not sure which one but it was practically brand new. The late model Corollas, Hiluxes and FJs have them to name a few.

Looks great! Any pics of the reverse cam in use?

I managed to snaffle one on eBay. I got the updated version 38006, apparently is can stream music via Bluetooth.

I've added the reverse camera view to one of the posts above.

Mine is 38005 and also does bluetooth audio streaming. Wonder what the difference is?

ok so that doesn't change when you change the colour of the screen?

Hmmm my buttons could be orange as it is from a Corolla? Maybe that is the difference between 5 & 6...
