Im not sure how your working your fuel figures out but some one is wrong. People dream of cracking the 9's in a D4D 120. The 120 V6 gives better economy then a 3.4 V6 90 series. based on speed limits and roughly the same driving conditions, distance, temps, same tyres and pressures etc I can guarantee my 120 has so far on every trip done better then my old 3.4 90 series and on par (some times) with my old 90 turbo diesel as well. Even in my old 90 series V6 driving at different speeds just to experiment with economy (remembering its the same road same trip I know every bend in the road no cruise control activated) I even sat on 85k once (was killing me) and not once ever did I crack even 10L per 100 in my V6 my diesel yes but only just at 9.8L per 100 sitting on 85/90k on the freeway. They also did testing on the 95 octane fuel and there is a noticeable differnce to the 91 (normal unleaded not E10crap) and the 98 was just a waste of money, This was done in house lab testing. I never 98 unless Im sitting on empty and there is no 91 or 95 for what ever reason BUT WILL NEVER run E10 in either of my cars. Mate very rare I disagree with some one (might think it and keep to my self) but couldnt help myself with this one. No offence intended towards you but I still stand saying no one I know of has ever got 9 or less in a 3.4 V6 and you dont say wether yours is auto or manual ?? but in the 90's I have found the autos useing less on the freeway due to lock up convertor and also rev less then the manual version.. Again no offence ment....... Cheers Steve
My apologies I got the highway km's wrong. I divided the total km's by litres used but forgot to divide that figure into 100 to get litres used per 100. I drive at 90km/h on the highway too most of the time because it uses 25% less fuel. I forgot to add that in.
I drove from Airlie Beach once to my house in Brisbane without refuelling (1150km), then was able to still drive the car around for a few days aftewards and all up did between 1300 & 1400km I worked out before I thought I needed to refuel. The car would've been running on vapours by that stage.

Also forgot to add it's an Auto. I also do my own servicing on it meticulously and change the air filter every 12,000km or 2 oil changes. To save a lot of fuel with around town driving I roll from a still position off the line slowly and build up the speed easily until 60km/h. I don't drive it off the lights with much throttle. It saves lot of fuel. I look after it because I want all my transmission cogs and everything to still be in really good condition for at least another 10 years as I'm not trading it any time soon. I also have the 3rd row seats removed as they're dead weight... They're not light.

No apologies needed mate you could have been getting it (was hard to believe) I have just never heard of anyone getting it but anything is possible. Yes sitting on that 90 does make a big difference totally agree with you there. My old 90 1KZ diesel as mentioned would crack the 10's if I sat around the 90 but If I pushed it to 110 I would see 11/12's and if I pushed 120 would jump to 14's and if it was a muggy shitty day (say extremely humid) it would jump to 16 and be gutless. I certainly wasnt that impressed with the 1kz. While the 120 V6 is a bit thirstier round town then the diesel was (14 compared to 16) out on the open road I must admit I love the V6 120, powerful, responsive, quit but yes will never get the figures a D4D gets that for sure, but I do like getting my unleaded 10c a litre cheaper at the pump on the cheaper day. petrol is so up and down compared to diesel which hardly moves. Bloody thieving mongrels, now with all the floods there will be some bullshit excuse why we will have to pay more for the fuel...........Lets See. Cheers Steve

90km/h is my car's perfect torque range. At that speed going up inclines it doesn't loose speed or shift up a gear, whereas driving at 85, 95 or even 100km/h will result in the car kicking up a gear and reving high to maintain the same speed.
In Toowoomba the fuel is cheaper than anywhere in Brisbane. Wierd, but always been that way. I always fill up at a particular servo that keeps their prices the same 7 days a week regardless - $1.31/L.

It could be worse........my old 100 series V8 used 40ltrs per 100 towing the boat coming across the Barkly hwy with the cruise control on 150..(open speed limit back then)......jesus that thing could drink given the chance.

Air cleaner, fuel filter plugs and leads may help out......

Oh so true, I cant understand why either, I travel up there every second week, and if I need fuel I hang on till I get to Rustys or the Freedom fuels servo.
