Alloy versus Steel Bullbar

I am at the stage where I want to put a Bull bar on our 2011 GXL. Due to it being Metal Storm (Dark blue) colour I don think a colour coded bar would look good. Looking at the TJM T15 Deluxe alloy bar as an option but my questions are:

If I do go for steel Do I need to upgrade the suspension to cope with the extra weight and also worry about the recent thread on finding cracks in the chasis mount?

If I go for alloy is it going to be strong enough to take a decent hit?

I tried searching the forum for the answer so if this had been covered before my apologies.

As for your suspension - some people will say you don't need to and some will say you should. Personally, I would (and did) but it may also depend on what you are going to use the Prado for. Off road work or country driving. In the end you will need to be happy with your decision.

Are you planning a winch and second battery? As this will play a part.

As for damaged caused by the weight, I think there will be a 6 month weight to find the answer.

I had a steel bar with stock suspension for several months and it would nose dive quite noticeably when breaking hard. I got use to it but it was still a nice surprise to find that had stopped when I got the suspension lift installed.

I wouldn't base my decision on whether you need to uprate the suspension though. You will likely decide you want to do that anyway if you ever take it off road or carry heavy loads.

Meal Storm is a dark blue metallic, Checked that thread there is only a picture of a Smart bar on a Metal storm.

The alloy bar would crumple like no tomorrow if you hit something, plus they r a bastard to keep shiny, fseiner wine that has had both, my new 150 has been order with a TJM color code, doesn't matter what colour the colour code does look good.

Just got mine fitted, ended up with hammertone and it looks great was a bit worried how it would look but its better than I expected, BTW I waited till the 4wd show was on and I got it fitted for $1000 from Sports range 4x4 at Wangarra Perth, no spotties but very happy with what I got for what I paid,

Yes excellent, you can crank up the web site at www.sportsrange.com.au and see some of the range they do there, have to say I was impressed at the range they have for such a small place and check out the prices, they do a steel bar for around $1200 good service good value have a look and see for yourself
