  • Fourbyfour's 150 D4D

Hello everyone, picked up my 2011 GXL on xmas eve, it is the tech update so you can see the privacy glass and longer mudflaps. I am very impressed with it drives so smooth and once you are up cruising you don't even hear its a diesel. The only change I had done pre-delivery was the all terrain tyres, those are very quite for an all terrain. I previously had a nissan xtrail with pirelli all terrains and they were quite noisy. Its booked in for a couple of goodies at TJM in perth in the next 2 weeks since it does look a bit naked, just a bullbar, snorkel and towbar. More pics to come soon!

Looking forward to watching your Prado develop, nice choice on tyres as well. Hopefully BFG will reduce the price of the 18" one day.

      Cheers Daniel

Awesome choice of colour 4x4! The BFG's are quiet, but work has a XTrail and I have found that it has a noisy cabin even with road tyres compared to my Prado with BFG's.

Great chrissie present. I am waiting on my new GXL (hopefully March). How do you find the privacy glass? From the pics it looks like it is not on the front side windows, is that correct? My dealer does not even think the update has the privacy glass. Also, what size are the BFG's?

You might want to read the threads on window tint halfpastfour. From what I have read, privacy glass does not do the driver and passenger windows, and privacy glass is also not UV rated. A number have people have then had to get UV film put over the top, as well as get the front two windows tinted. Sorry to hijack the thread fourbyfour.

Thanks for the comments guys, the tyres are the standard size 265 65 17 and yes it does have privacy glass from the middle row backwards. Thanks for the info there madkore, I did not know the privacy glass required UV film, so will get that done when I get the front two tinted

Had my bullbar, snorkel and tow bar fitted by TJM Perth, great job they did, now its starting to look the part.

Next up will be some spotties, nothing special maybe narva 175's or 225's and a uhf radio. I also scored a free TJM awning and so will be getting some roof racks to fit it on.
Would I be able to mount it on the whisbar racks, the ones that sit flush in between the roof rails? any suggestions will be appreciated.

                cheers

                  Tim,

He has used a bracket but has to keep the plastic end caps off to use it.

If you are interested I am going to get some brackets made to go on these whispbar racks as I have a set as well. They will be able to be installed so that the plastic end caps can be left on. I am going to get them cut folded and powdercoated. I'll let you know what they cost.

Looking very sharp Tim. With regards to mounting the awning to the flush mount whispbar, I don't know how your'e going to go, as the accessory mounting channel is set a fair way in on the bars

You would most likely need to custom build a bracket to suit. I vaguely remember seeing a statement from an awning manufacturer brochure stating what bars they would fit and that they weren't compatible with Whisbars, ( I think it was for the Foxwing), Best bet is to give a Whispbar dealer a call

                      I stand corrected...
Paul you posted whilst I was writing the above. I hadn't seen Rogerthats brackets before. That'll do nicely
