I made this for the passenger side and have gone to a smaller battery and will make something similar for the 2nd battery. Battery is rock solid now. Prior to the brace I could flex the battery a couple of millimetres.

    Hi Tin

Did you have to bend the positive battery lead much to get it to bolt on to the Optima terminals?

    • So after 5 years since first reading this thread and 100k km it has happened. Right side cracked. When ever I air up I kind of glance under with squinted eyes to see if the cracks have appeared. Until this point I thought I was one of the lucky ones.

I have the part numbers from the thread but wondering if anyone has had a quality repair done in Sydney? And where they recommend (or not recommend).

Also read that Toyota don't supply the bolts, how do I know what / where to get the right ones and quality etc.

      Cheers guys.

Can someone who has puchased or fitted the patch kit for the 150 Prado from Toyota please confirm for me that it contains only one sheet metal patch per side.
On a side note the bolts and nuts are still available. Just purchased the kit $358.65 in total , nuts, bolts, plastic inner guard clips and two metal patches.

Looks like they were available in Oct 2016

        • That's good news, I was just going off someone else's comment.

Is this patch kit an easy bolt in situation, as in, just come in from underneath or do you need access to the top and have to remove parts in the engine bay or is it more complicated. I'm assuming the crack also needs to be welded.

I only have pretty basic mechanical skills.

            • Don't know what happened there. But Tin, I was going to ask if you ever put the Optima brackets into production???

              • Hi KarlCaudwell, Did you find a dealership able to source the "patch kit" for you? I'm looking for a LHS one, but I feel that I would be better off searching for a unicorn. Everyone I have spoken to has no idea and the parts do not appear in the standard listing of 150 parts. Thanks.

                • I haven't tried yet. Was going to get on it this week. Where are you? I'm in Sydney and need RHS so maybe we can work together. Have you called dealerships in sydney?

                  • I bought most of the parts I needed from Amayama but they weren't able to supply the RHS patch.
Ended up buying that from Stewart Toyota in Kirrawee. Gave them the part number, they had it in a few days.
                    Cost me about $152.00.

                    • I had a mate (ex mechanic with father a panel beater) install the dual patch kit two weeks ago. My local Toyota spare parts office had no problem when I supplied the parts list listed in this thread. Two patch panels with all the nuts and bolts. Cost was around $400 for both sides.

                      • Kirrawee is close to me so that will work.

I'm in Melbourne. Perhaps that is the problem. I'm happy to work something out if you can get the patch parts for the LHS. I don't think you can imagine how frustrating it is to have EVERYONE tell you that "this is the first I've heard of it" "never seen it before" "not in the system" etc, etc.

Hey mate can you please post up (for the millionth time) the part number for the LHS (passengers) patch? I have given the numbers in this thread to 3 Toyota dealers in Melbourne and they tell me they are all for the RHS (drivers). Not sure what I'm missing. Thanks in advance.

                            • Hi guys, I'm struggling to find any Toyota dealer in the Melbourne Eastern suburbs (or anywhere in fact) who knows anything about this issue or the patch kit for Prado 150 inner guard crack issue. Can anybody in Melbourne who's dealt with this issue point me towards a good dealer who can supply and potentially fit the kit?

My guards aren't cracked and my car is bone stock (2012, ~70k), but I'm about to start kitting it out, and the idea of cracking guards doesn't particularly appeal to me I'm a big one for preventative maintenance.
