  • Reversing Camera – Waeco Superseded Stocks?

(moved from this thread http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?22941-Polaris-NG-7200-GPS-Unit-with-2-cameras-Installation&p=322148&viewfull=1#post322148 )

For those contemplating a reversing camera, either new, or a possible replacement for a cheap Chinese unit (like me), might take a look at the Waeco Australia website, on the ‘Factory Seconds’ tab, then “Special Offers”.

As of today there are 4 models on offer, CAM-30C, RV16, RV-19, RV-22 in limited apparent quantity, and whilst the original prices are high, the sale prices (which I won’t quote) are more than reasonable…. ie ‘cheap’. The quantities available are all nominally “1”, but I suspect that this does not accurately reflect their stock of these items.

The one that I purchased was the Cam-30C, and whilst not clear on the website, is a ‘ball’ camera, held within a circular clamp (adjust with allen key) which allows significant directional adjustments. It came with a 20m (yes) extension cable (Female to Male 6-pin Mini DIN Plug), to connect to the male 6-pin Mini DIN Plug at the end of the 110cm long camera cable. Jaycar sells the 6-pin Mini DIN plugs to attach. ($2.25).

Photos above are of the purchased CAM-30C

Pinouts of the Cam-30C are as follows - Mini-DIN Plug

Pin Layout: Looking at Male Plug, with the Notch at 12 o'clock, the pin numbering going clockwise is 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 [ie Pin 6 at 1 o/clock, Pin 1, at 11 o'clock]

If Supplied with the Old style extension Cable (came with mine..)

    1 – BLACK (Audio) Camera has Microphone2 –
2 - GREEN (-ve, earth) & Metalic housing on DIN plug
3 – RED* (12v Switched) assume this is for fast power on?*
    4 – BROWN* (12v +ve) not sure why 2x 12v connections? de-icing protection?
5 – YELLOW (video) [Loose Shielded]
6 – WHITE (Mirror Image) Lateral ‘reverse’, for forward facing camera.

OR with the Newer Extension Lead with screw-locked connections

1 – Blue (Audio) Camera has Microphone
2 – Black (-ve, earth) & Metalic housing on DIN plug
3 – Green*(12v Switched) assume this is for fast power on?
    4 – Red* (12v +ve) not sure why 2x 12v connections? de-icing protection?
5 – White (video) [not seen new cable, probably shielded]
6 – Yellow (Mirror Image) Lateral ‘reverse’, for forward facing camera.

    * I connected the +12v, and the 'switched' 12v together, via the reverse light. Works fine. The Mounting brachet allows an excellect range of adjustment. Very Pleased; for just $20+Post($15).. Oops...

        Hi Kav,

It is a XTRONS TD695gd - Chinese model with a few rough edges, but still very pleased. Has Digital TV, can plug in Hard Disk; has GPS, Bluetooth, iPod, 6.95 inch screen etc, etc. Might now be replaced by the TD696, (see eBay), Mine was $595 (Melbourne) search eBay for "6.95 dvd" and it is there as of today, from overseas seller (sorry, for delay, I missed your post).

        will also send PM.

[Added photos to original post, and...]

Just a comment that I needed to move the number plate down to avoid any potential obstruction, as this camera is a fair bit deeper that the previous one, which was similar to the following ebay camera (different supplier).

Above is an image of a cheap unit similar to the poor quality one that the Waeco camera replaced.

The one above has a curved plastic outer cover over the lense, which distorted the image, and closer inspection revealed it was slightly foggy inside (brand new). I disassembled the camera, drilled a hole through the plastic lense cover, and then siliconed a flat glass child's watch-face over the top. (I had purchased the watch at Target for $12.)

It was substantially better, but still not great, hence my interest in the Waeco camera.

Was in Anaconda at Logan Megacentre yesterday and they had a Waeco Reversing Kit on the Clearance table for $100. Box had no markings on the outside, so I got the guy to open it for a look - don't know what model it was but the camera was in a square case and quite bulky, and the LCD Screen was quite large too. Even the sales guy said that while it was a bargain it would probably be better (stand out less) on the back of a caravan, rather than a prado.

Can you give me a product number for that camera tonkatuff. Sounds like a top deal, but I had a look on the Jaycar webiste and the flush mount camera is priced at $80 and can't see any for $40.

                    Problems with wiring

                    Hi bworth,

I have just received a CAM30C to hook up with a non Waeco monitor. I saw your post and have tried your connections but I cannot get the wiring right. I have not cut the lead yet as if it does not support NTSC I have to send it back. I am doing a trial run using my tv (which worked for a cheap brand camera) and a plug from jaycar . How did you work out the wiring? I cannot even get power to the camera.

                    cheers,

                    gonebush

P.S. They have bumped the price bck up to $70, still way cheaper than retail though.
