  • SEQ Janowen Hills weekend 14th/15th Jan 2012

    Hi Folks

I am planning to stay the weekend and do some 4WDriving at the Janowen Hills 4WD park just before Warwick.

The plan is to arrive Saturday morning set up for the weekend and then utilise the park tracks.

Have a look at their website www.janowenhills4wdpark.bigpondhosting.com .

They have a nice camping area, (BYO shade as it is QLD summer) and there is a permanant creek just below the camping area. Also dogs under control are allowed.

If you are interested let me know and I will do the arrangements at the park. Usual stuff with the trip responsibilities as below.

See ya on the tracks, Richo.

Unfortunately I'll miss you by a week. I'm going Friday to Sunday 20th to 22nd with 3 other cars. I've been there twice before and you'll love it I guarantee. The tracks are great. If you're feeling extra gutsy you can have a crack at going up or down the very steep track in the quarry. It's even great to park and watch others try it. Right from your campsite you can see 3 steep tracks of varying diffculty from left to right (left being easiest and right being the hardest) going up a hill on the campground perimeter and watch people drive them every day while you're in the comfort of your camp chair. The campground is big, open and completely covered in green grass.

    Hope you have a ball

      Richo,

I'm heading there on the 5th to 8th. Did you see it recently in a magazine?

I've been past numerous times on the way to Gordon Country but never stopped in, so this time I'm going to give the tracks a go.

See ya on the tracks, Richo.

I was hoping to get a winch installed before we went but I think I'm running out of time. One of the neighbours read about it in a recent 4wd magazine and we had a couple of days to fill in after the new year so we thought we'd give it a go. I'll let you know what it's like.

            Hi mate

I picked that weekend as I will have my winch installed by then and will be trying it out on that weekend.

Maybe I can get Snaga to turn up and we can see how my other winch goes.

See ya on the tracks, Richo.

Might be a good excuse for Santa to get me that Awning!!

This sounds like a great weekend! The family will most likely come along for some fun also. I will most likely confirm early in the new year Richo... (might be able to test out those new HID's that might be coming down the chimney?)

Been out there a few times and a great 4WD park with tracks from easy to extreme. You shouldn't need a winch to drive most of the easy to medium and some of the more difficult tracks. Camp down near the creek, it's a lovely spot. Toilets are pretty good, tokens needed for hot showers though I think the gas bottles need refilling.

My only warning for the place is it is black soil country and a sprinkling of rain will turn the place into a slip and slide arena. The owner has a guide that if there is rain each track is rated 2 higher than marked in the dry. Having slid across gentle slopes out there in the wet it is pretty true. Take a look at the photo of the month in the attached link...Janowen after a light rain

                  Hi Josh

Had a look at the photo, could be some big time winching fun if it rains

See ya on the tracks, Richo.

Sadly I won't be able to join you guys on this run... Richo, you'll have to do the winching duties on your own this time.

Unfortunately, I already have plans for that weekend.

Take plenty of pics for posting .

Hi Richo, definitely keen in joining you for this trip. Always enjoy camping and doing some of the tracks in Janowen. Unfortunately I'm not ready to pin stripe the 150 at this early stage of ownership. Is there any objection if I bring the vitara in place of the 150?

I won't be able to confirm until later next week.

Mmm, not sure how I missed this one but Richo we may be keen, I will only be up for the moderate stuff and if it rains the Grandtrek AT22 equipped Prado will be parked but our winch is always raring for a go (Josh you going to bring that Pajero along???), might see if John is also keen to give his new Taj Mahal caravan a shake down trip. If we do not go to Gordon Country this weekend we may join you next weekend, I will let you know early next week.

                              Cheers Daniel, Lawry and Abigail

Edit - sorry guys, will not make this one as I did not get the camper quite finished and we have a busy month ahead... Have a great one.
