SEARCHING THREADS - using Google to help plus some other tips

For those trying to find a thread on a topic, a couple of suggestions:

First just browse the forums for a while. Drill down under each main title into the sub- threads. There's a wealth of information already there. In addition to the answer you might be seeking, you might also find out something else you don't know.

Use google.com.au to help. In the search filed type: "site:Pradopoint.com" followed by a couple of keywords (ie. spotlight spread spot) for your search. You might be surprised how easy this is.

Lastly, note that your forum settings might be preventing you from seeing some older threads, so check your viewing settings. In addition, note there are a bunch of older threads that are archived. The information is all there - but you need to access the "archived" threads area. Look for the link (Archive) down the bottom right hand corner of the forums page.

Whilst I agree Google is a great tool for info etc, it also defeats the whole object of a Forum , which is to interact, talk , share experiences, and the one thing google cant compete with ............. experience, thats why we use forums because rest assured no matter how good the info you just cant beat some one who's actually done it....

I Agree with ntp here as i have seen and i am sure the moderator's will agree that most newbies and sometimes us longer active members tend to start new topics before using the search function..
davy- dont get me wrong but your comments are also valid in the sense that Forum's will continue to instigate real world experience but ntp was just trying to identify a continuing issue on this forum..

No Worries Wes I wasn't having a pop at anyone just trying to say that although useing search is common sense you can trawl for yonks trying to find what you want so much so it can save a lot of time and grief just to ask again, but I do realise it can be frustrating when it's all ready been done to death, again just my 2 bobs mate,

Thats the fine line with this discussion, yeah its much easier and quicker just to start a thread and ask, well it is for the person doing the asking, not so much for the person doing the answering. The forum needs questions and answers and interaction, thats what makes it a forum, Its when common questions get asked over and over again that it frustrates people.

The forum also needs give and take and the ones that only take don't help things, one member comes to mind with 11 posts, he started 7 new threads, sent me at least 2 dozen PM's and after a couple of weeks had his answers and has never visited again. Those are the people that need to learn how to search, and what this thread is aimed at.

The thing with creating a new thread to ask because it is simpler to do that than to search is that it makes it more difficult to find relevant info in the future.

Bump.

Not sure why there isn't a "First Question" or "I've tried searching but still need help thread" so that anyone who might have a question can just use this thread initially, especially newbies, to ask a question. Mods can then move post to respective thread if one already exists. This might help stop the many similar one question threads being constantly created.

This type of thread should be promoted to all new members (perhaps as an introductory PM along with a copy of the rules) and be kept as a sticky alongside the "Introductions" thread.

I still don't understand why we don't have a google search bar intergrated in the header of the PradoPoint page with "site:www.pradopoint.com" pre-selected.
This would at least provide everyone access to a decent search function without the need to go to another tab or web page, just think of how many unnecessary threads this could prevent.
