The cooler is fitted post radiator or so I believe (I never did check).

    As for filling,

Start the car and shift through the gears.

Remove the plug from the sump - it has a stand tube that will only allow the fluid to drain once full.

Then remove the fill plug which if I remember correctly is on the passenger side of the box and sits just out of sight rear of the auto/transfer split line. Yes its on the transfer side.

Then its a case of filling till it drains from the tube. Remember to start and shift through the gears and check again. It may take 2 or 3 go's.

Oh and buy the correct oil from Toyota about $80 for 5 Ltr.

The fluid runs in through the lower radiator tube and out through the upper tube. I connected my cooler to the upper (post radiator) tube. Temp is now 8 - 20 degrees lower and drops much faster when it does heat up. The procedure to top up the ATF is a major PITA unless you have a hoist. My ATF was brown after 40k so will be getting changed shortly, but not by me! Will be exxy!

I got a Davies Craig cooler on sale at superthief 20% off. I didn't bother with the fan as it is a supplemental cooler.

This is becoming a major issue for me. After driving in Perth this morning with only 2 people in the car and no extra weight my ATF temp got up to 110 which in my opinion is way too hot. This was in "D" and not towing but there were a couple of hills that I went up, the outside temp was 30 deg. The auto should not operate at this temperature as damage to the oil will occur and the life of the oil and the auto trans will be reduced. My temp warning light did not come on but I do not know if my car had the changes made to increase the temp that it comes on at. Regardless it should not get that hot in unstressed conditions, god knows what it would get in really hilly terrain. Not good enough Toyota and I should not have to install an extra cooler for normal driving conditions.

I am using Torque pro on my tablet and want to add the Transmission Temp meter. Does anyone know the Trans Temp PID for the 150. I have thecode and equation for the 200 series but it does not seem quite right.

              Thanks

Tezza, I find this is normal climbing hills, I live in a hilly area and do city driving. Temps city are around 70-90, flat all the way, around home 90-100 and it will easily hit 110 buy the time I hit the driveway. I don't have a cooler, but intend to change the trans oil every 20,000kms. I don't tow (yet).
