  • Diesel cruising range on full tank

    Hi All,

I'm not sure if this has been discussed on the forum however I couldn't find it after spending days searching for an answer.

I just sold my Prado Petrol 150 GXL and am thinking of getting the diesel, The dealer told me that there isn't a big different in the cruising range from petrol and diesel. But I know for a fact that you can get more out of a diesel tank then petrol, but not sure how much more.

In my petrol GXL, I was getting an average of 880kms from a completely full tank, and I mean completely full.

Can anyone tell me how many kms you would get out of a full diesel tank? city and freeway driving?

    Thanks.

I can do 9L per 100km cruising so I guess that is just over 1600 km on a 150l full tank.

      But that was unloaded.

Loaded with a rooftop tent and loaded boat trailer, food, water, fridge etc bumps it out to 14 on dirt roads when you hook along. Just under 1100 km in that case. That is also the case around town. Im still happy. D.

Around town with a but of freeway work here and there we get 1100kms on a tank, each refill takes around 125L of diesel.

We are pretty much the same as Rogerthstv2, with 1000 - 1100 Kim's per 120 - 130 L and we have also got the Rhino alloy roof basket on. I have just taken it off so I'm interested to see if we get a bit better fuel economy.

I seem to get crap economy around town, but where the diesel shines is towing. Fully loaded up with all sorts of stuff on the roof and a 1.5t camper I never get worse than 14l/100km.

dealer sounds like a bit of a muppet saying that.. somewhere between 1200-1500km out of a tank.

My experience is much the same as others here. For pure cruising, I regularly get 1,300-1,400kms for ~155 litres diesel.

Those petrol engines have a pretty miserable range .

I get about 1800KM's mostly country driving but with some city thrown in.
I'm failry light on the pedal though.

In touring format with roof basket, awning, shovel etc and towing a Jayco camper it drops to around 12Ltr per 100K's

                  Cheers

Do it, you wont regret it, lots of jealous petrol owners will try and tell you the Diesel is second to the Petrol but us Diesel owners knows the truth

1250k's for 120-125 litres, just remember the speedo is 4kph slow on the dash and GPS. I dont know if the trip comp uses the same data but if it does, add another 50km to that total.

I've got the scangauge installed and the distance and speed that is shown on this is exactly the same as my GPS readings, so it just looks like the speedo reading on the dash is out by 3-4%..... The Trip computer/meter on the dash should also be correct too

A little while back, I drove from Brisbane to Sydney fully loaded, and a few days around Sydney unloaded, before filling up again, and only could fit 135 lts into the tanks. Not bad for a V6 I recken. Will be doing the same trip again at the beginning of next year (only 5 weeks away, just to scare some of you), will report back (If I remember) on the fuel used.

Once you get out on the open road, there is very little between the Diesel and Petrol, but it also comes down to how you drive, the time of day your driving, traffic, weather conditions, ect.

On my 120 D4D, I was getting 1550km out of the two tanks, but since putting the BFG's on, I get about 1350km...
